Rosie's Story

Rosie is a young Mustang mare who is very new to our facility and just beginning her journey with us. Estimated to be around four years old, she has a soft, thoughtful nature and malleable mind — very impressionable, able to learn, and in need of patient, consistent guidance.

Rosie is currently co-housed with another horse and is doing well in a herd setting. She tends to take on a lower-ranking role and is highly affiliative, often looking to a more confident horse for reassurance and direction. This makes her a great candidate for a home with a calm, steady companion.

She is still adjusting to her new environment and can be evasive to catch at this time, likely due to the recent transition. Once caught, she is generally good for basic handling, though she benefits from time to process new experiences. Rosie is a thoughtful horse who tries to work things out—she may pause or “freeze” when feeling pressure, especially in confined situations.

One thing that has quickly become clear is that food is the way to Rosie’s heart. She is highly food-motivated and has already shown a willingness to engage and try when positive reinforcement is involved. For example, she loaded onto the trailer thoughtfully and confidently once food was introduced.

Rosie is inquisitive, intelligent, and athletic—she loves to stretch her legs and zoom around the pasture. She has a lot of potential, but she will need a person who is willing to invest time in building trust, confidence, and a solid foundation before asking for more advanced work. She will thrive with a patient, consistent handler who can build a relationship with her and help her gain confidence and continue developing her skills at her own pace.

With time, understanding, and the right partnership, Rosie has all the makings of a truly special horse. We look forward to continuing to learn more about her as she settles in.
