Lucy's Story

Lucy will be competing in the Showcase Division of the 2026 Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge with trainer Randy Andren of Still Waters Horse Co out of West Fargo, ND. She will be available for adoption on August 23, 2026 at the Finale, through a bidding process to approved adopters.

Lucy has a well-established groundwork foundation and has been ridden bareback. She understands how to move her body, respond to cues, and work with her handler, and she continues to build confidence as her training progresses.

Following earlier under-saddle hesitation, Lucy was evaluated at Nebraska Equine and cleared to continue training, with no signs of lameness. X-rays of her back were clean, with no indications of kissing spine or navicular concerns.

She previously participated in the 2024 Dakota Showdown Horse Trainer Challenge, where she made strong progress in groundwork and early riding. That experience, combined with the time she’s had to continue developing, has her in a great position moving forward.

Lucy is an intelligent and sensitive mare who responds well to clear communication and kind, consistent handling. She has done the work to build a strong foundation and is ready to keep progressing with the right guidance.
