ZUMA's Story

Zuma is a 4 year old, female Dogue de Bordeaux/French Mastiff. She was surrendered after her owner had to move due to a divorce. Zuma was raised around children and does well with them. She has a strong prey drive and does not do well with small animals. She has been around larger, calm dogs and done well but she would thrive as the only pet and center of your attention. Zuma came to us with an old CCL tear in her left knee which left her in pain, not wanting to walk or move about much. This old injury required a significant TPLO Surgery to get Zuma back on her feet. We were lucky enough to find a wonderful vet that donated the surgery to Zuma so she is now recovering and ready for her new, pain-free life to begin! During the surgery, the vet noticed that Zuma also has hip dysplasia which will be much easier on her as she continues to lose weight. Zuma came to us at 160 lbs but is now down to 153 lbs in just a short time. The vet recommends continuing her diet to get her to around 140 lbs. Zuma is spayed, up to date with vaccines and microchipped. Zuma is going to be recovering for around 8 weeks, but she's happy to meet potential adopters and continue short leash walks in the meantime. All follow up visits will be covered until she is released from the vet's care.

If you would like to meet Zuma, or for more information, please email PetRescueOfMercer@gmail.com or put in a non-binding dog adoption application on our website: https://www.petrescueofmercer.org/dogadoptionapp

Applicants must live within 60 min of Hamilton, NJ to be considered. A vet check will be conducted for each application and a solid vet history for current and past pets will be verified.
