Zoey

Zoey has been back in foster almost a week now, and I'll admit that we've spent a good part of that week trying to figure out what the catch is.<br/><br/>She lived with a family for about a year before being returned, so naturally we wondered what we were going to discover once she settled in here. And the answer, so far, is really... not much. She's just a very sweet, slightly insecure young dog who seems to need someone willing to give her a little time to figure out that the world isn't quite as scary as she sometimes thinks it is.<br/><br/>Zoey is about a year and a half old, 43 pounds, and probably some combination of heeler and pit. She's completely house trained, very gentle and affectionate, and honestly just an easy dog to have around. She LOVES her crate — not because she needs to be crated to keep her out of trouble, but because thats her safe place. Shell happily put herself in there when she wants to relax.<br/><br/>She loves other dogs, but she can be intimidated by dogs that come on too strong. She was absolutely terrified of my little foster puppies when she first met them, which was pretty funny considering they are tiny and ridiculous, but within a few hours they were her best friends. Cats are apparently even more terrifying and, for now, her preferred strategy is to head in the opposite direction.<br/><br/>She does startle easily and can be unsure of new things, and I think that's really the biggest thing her next family needs to understand about her. She doesn't need someone to fix a bunch of bad behavior. She needs someone patient who will help her build confidence and let her learn at her own pace.<br/><br/>Zoey is medium energy — still young and definitely needs regular exercise, but she isn't bouncing off the walls. She loves walks, chasing balls, and a good game of tug-of-war..<br/><br/>I keep waiting for Zoey to show us the big problem we somehow missed. At this point, I really dont think there is one.
