Zoey's Story

Meet Zoey — a 1 year old, 9 lb Terrier mix with a tender heart, a curious mind, and the cutest little prancing walk you’ve ever seen!

Quick Facts:
Name: Zoey
Breed: Terrier Mix
Age: 1 year old
Weight: 9 lbs.
House-Trained: Working on it!
Crate-Trained: Yes
Good with Dogs: Yes, but only with proper and slow introductions
Good with Cats: Not tested
Good with Kids: No, she’s scared of kids
Energy Level: High
Fence Required: Yes
Special Needs: Zoey has Lyme Disease and is being treated by the rescue

About Zoey’s Breed:
Our best guess is that Zoey is a Terrier mixed breed. Terrier mixes are known for their bright, expressive personalities and their loyal, people oriented nature. They’re often a charming blend of spunk and sweetness — curious, alert, and eager to bond closely with their humans. Many terrier mixes with longer coats need regular brushing to keep their fur soft and tangle free, and they tend to thrive when their grooming routine is part of a calm, reassuring environment.

Their ideal home is one that offers patience, consistency, and companionship. Because they can be sensitive or shy at first, they do best with gentle introductions, predictable routines, and people who understand their need to warm up at their own pace. A quieter household, older respectful children, and friendly pets can help them feel secure. With the right match, terrier mixes become affectionate, loyal, and wonderfully devoted little companions.

What to Love about Zoey:
Zoey is a timid girl who needs time, patience, and understanding to feel safe. She’s a flight risk right now, but she’s learning to walk on a leash and so she can take her neighborhood walks. She loves chewing on a good bone and watching everything happening around her — she’s incredibly curious and wants to be part of the world, even if she’s still learning how to feel confident in it.

Zoey has started to play with other dogs, but her nerves sometimes get the best of her and she may snap or nip without warning. Because of this, and her resource guarding tendencies, she would thrive in a home with no other dogs or in a calm, patient home where other dogs are properly introduced to her. She’s working hard with her foster mom to build confidence and is making excellent progress. She has plenty of energy and would love a fenced yard where she can safely run, explore, and burn off excitement!

She’s already crate trained and is working on her potty training. Zoey does have separation anxiety, so she needs someone who is home more often than not and can help her feel secure. She hasn’t met cats formally, though she has barked at a few from afar. Zoey is currently being treated for Lyme disease and is doing well under the rescue’s care!

Zoey is looking for a special person — someone patient, gentle, and committed to helping her blossom. She knows she’s working hard to be brave, and with the right person by her side, she’ll grow into the loving, loyal companion she’s meant to be. She just needs a chance!

Zoey’s Zesty Highlights:
• 1 year old, 9 lb Terrier mix with an adorable prancing walk
• Very timid at first and needs time, patience, and gentle handling to feel safe
• Loves chewing on bones and watching everything happening around her
• A flight risk right now but learning to walk confidently on a leash without pulling
• Would thrive as the only dog or with proper slow introductions to other dogs due to shyness, fearfulness, and resource guarding tendencies
• Curious and energetic, with a strong desire to explore and understand her surroundings
• Needs a fenced yard to safely run, play, and burn off her energy
• Working on potty training and already crate trained
• Has separation anxiety and needs someone home more often than not
• Being treated for Lyme disease and making great progress building confidence with her foster mom

Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/.
