Zippy's Story

Zippy is relatively new to Bonaparte's Retreat in the whole scheme of things. We do know that Zippy is experiencing some extreme anxiety from his previous heavy trauma so we have started him on Prozac and he seems to be doing well on that and it may be a medication he would need to be on for life so that is something a potential adopter would need to know.

Zippy is 10000% Chihuahua and will attach to one person as they do, but he can be reactive with the other humans in the home that he is not bonded with so we are thinking he would do best in a home with one person-but that person could be either male or female. He will also take a while to warm up to someone so they would need to know that going in as well...and he can be very vocal until he feels comfy so we are not thinking he would be appropriate in an apartment/condo setting. He is ok with other dogs though and did come with a canine brother but they are not bonded so he will not be coming with Zippy. We would not recommend Zippy be in a home with children and would recommend someone be very careful with Mr. Zippy around children. Just a heads up that he will be very vocal and a meet & greet as well and potentially reactive if we dont keep a slow and soft vibe so keep that in mind. We have brought in a dog counselor to help this little man work through some of his trauma and to help set him up for success in a new home, and Zippy has made a lot of strides since we have which is PAWsome!

He has also come a LOOONG way since he has been with his fosters but he does still have a ways to go...and we think having him in a home where he can heavily bond and continue his growth may be the best route for him so he is available for adoption now. He can be VERY loving with the person he does bond with after he feels safe so his new person will have that to look forward too and will feel like they won a medal when that happens!
