Ziggy the Tripod!'s Story
Please note Ziggy is being fostered on Oak Park, IL. If you like to meet Ziggy that can be arranged !

8/10/25 update:

Being a tripaw is just another part of Ziggys journey to healthy and pain free living. He broke his leg and dislocated his elbow as a puppy and it was not properly taken care of so the decision was made to amputate. So do we say he is special needs? Does special needs include shorter walks (1 mile is good!), keeping lean and strong, stretches (aka cuddles), strengthening exercises 3x a week for 15 min that are fun to do and that he enjoys, feeding a healthy diet and joint supplements, a home with fewer stairs or an option to mainly live on one floor(not that he can’t do them but because of wear and tear), the ability to pay attention to his ques for when he needs a rest? A pool? Even better says Ziggy! Another dog? Yes please! Kids? Cats? A comfy couch and lots of toys? All good! Other than his new owner being responsible and willing to and able to follow these guidelines and give him all the love Ziggy could need your perfect match! We will cover additional physical therapy upon adoption.
This sweet boy was found abandoned on the south side of Chicago where he called an alley and beneath the porch of an abandoned house home. Severely undernourished, skin-and-bones Ziggy was very interested in the bag of meatballs his finder-turned-foster used to lure him. In fact he snuck over and stole the bag of meatballs while she was setting up the trap to secure him! He happily trotted off not knowing that the bag was upside down and that the meatballs were spilling out, leaving a trail like breadcrumbs. His finder took the opportunity to sit in the middle of the trail he unknowingly created, and she waited. Sure enough, he popped his head out from under the porch and started to follow the meatball trail. He was so busy happily eating meatballs that he didn’t notice as he was gently leashed.

From that moment on he knew he was safe. He slept the entire way to Animal Care and Control in his finder's lap. Once there he because sick with an upper respiratory infection and, due to being emaciated, he could not fight it off. It turned into pneumonia, putting him at great risk of not making it out of the shelter. Ziggy’s finder kept tabs on him and knew she had to find a way to help him. Teaming up with our rescue, she was able to foster him and allow him to heal and decompress.

And that he did! Ziggy is now the healthiest boy with a great appetite who loves to cuddle and play. He loves his foster mom and dad dearly and hasn’t met a person young or old that he doesn’t love. He will happily sit on your feet while you pet his head. Ziggy also enjoys play dates with the neighbor’s dog and is learning to walk on a leash with good manners. Ziggy is potty trained and just an all around amazing boy who never let his poor treatment change how he feels about humans. Ziggy at some point broke his elbow and it fused back together on its own which ultimately lead to making the decision to remove it. He loves his walks and to play fetch. Ziggy is about a year old would be fine in a home as a single dog, but would also love a fur sibling to play with too!

https://vimeo.com/955002444
