Ziggy was picked up as a stray on 1/1/2021 in a city in Maryland. He was in the most horrific shape, emaciated with a BCS 2/9 weighing only 7.5 lbs, skin issues with sparse coat. It appears he was kept inside a crate in his own filth wasting away. His pads and nails were burned by urine, and his coat stained and damaged. He was severely matted with feces stuck all over. His coat would fall out in clumps from the urine that damaged his coat. Ziggy was a big mess!
We took this boy in and got him bathed and cleaned up some until we could get him groomed.
He has gained some weight weighs around 11 pounds. He has a few more pounds to go to be at a healthy weight. .
Ziggy is scheduled to be neutered on 2/18 giving him time to be in the best of shape before the surgery. Ziggy would be available for a foster to adopt until then.
We think Ziggy is a Yorkie and possibly a Cairn Terrier. He has long legs.
The shelter put him down as 2 years old but he was in horrible shape and we think he is much younger than that and even less than a year old. He sure acts like a puppy.
Ziggy is a bundle of energy and loves to play with his toys and other dogs at his foster home. He also enjoys going for walks.
Ziggy suffers from separation anxiety most likely induced by being left inside a crate while he was starving. We are looking for a home for Ziggy where someone is home most of the time. He will get better with time and training. He has no issues being crated at night as long as he knows someone is near him.
Ziggy loves going for car rides. He enjoys coming along running errands and on outings.
He is a total love and snuggle bug and likes curling up next to you under the blanket. He loves belly rubs and getting petted.
Ziggy is up to date on vaccines, is micro-chipped and again, waiting for neuter that is scheduled on 2/18 that the rescue will cover.
Ziggy is still working on mastering his house-training skills. He wears a belly band just in case he has an accident. That should get better once he is neutered.
