Ziggy's Story
Meet Ziggy! Ziggy is an incredibly handsome 4-year-old, 30 lb Cattle Dog mix.
Ziggy's journey hasn't been an easy one. He was originally found as a stray and taken to an overcrowded, high-kill shelter in Houston, Texas. He was adopted locally, only to end up back at the shelter just months later when he was found as a stray again. We rescued him and brought him to Colorado, where we hoped he had finally found the forever home he deserved. Unfortunately, after four wonderful months with his adopter, Ziggy is back with our rescue due to a newly discovered allergy within the household.

While our hearts break that Ziggy has experienced so much change, we know his perfect family is still out there.

From Ziggy's foster:
* * * *
"Ziggy is truly such a sweet, loving little guy. He can be a little hesitant when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, he completely blossoms into the most affectionate boy. He loves cuddling on the couch, sleeping in bed with me, and following me from room to room. If you're looking for a loyal shadow, Ziggy is your guy!

One of Ziggy's favorite things is spending time in the yard. Walks are stressful for Ziggy, so he needs a home with a yard to play and exercise in. He loves zooming around the yard, chasing squirrels along the fence, soaking up the sunshine, and playing with my dog. He's also a smart little guy who already knows commands like 'sit' and can even catch treats in mid-air!

Ziggy genuinely enjoys other dogs, in the home, at doggy daycare, or anywhere off leash. He has done wonderfully living with my dog, was fantastic with a tiny foster puppy we had, and now attends doggy daycare regularly where he has passed his evaluations and does great with the other dogs.

The one area where Ziggy still needs some support and training is while walking on leash. Like many dogs who have had an unstable past, he can become reactive when unfamiliar dogs approach while he's leashed. He's already been working with a certified behavior consultant and has made wonderful progress. He walks comfortably wearing a basket muzzle, which is simply another management tool that helps everyone feel confident while he continues building positive experiences. Off leash and in appropriate settings, Ziggy is very social and playful with other dogs.

Ziggy also appreciates slow introductions with new people coming into the home. He likes having a chance to observe before making new friends, but once he realizes you're safe, he quickly becomes affectionate and eager for attention. The people who know Ziggy absolutely adore him.

Because Ziggy has experienced so much instability throughout his life, he thrives on routine, consistency, and being close to his people. He would be happiest in a quieter home with someone who is home much of the day, works from home, or is retired. Apartment or shared-wall living probably isn't the best fit since he may vocalize when left alone, although he is never destructive and stays loose in the home when alone.

Ziggy is 100% potty trained, can be left loose in the home, has never chewed or destroyed anything, and has wonderful house manners."
* * * *

Ziggy is in excellent health. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm tested. He is blind in one eye due to what appears to be an old corneal scar, but it doesn't bother him at all and he navigates the world beautifully with his good eye.

Ziggy has already made tremendous progress thanks to the dedication of his previous adopter and the ongoing guidance of a certified behavior consultant. His future family should be excited to continue helping him build confidence through positive reinforcement training and thoughtful management.

The ideal home for Ziggy will have a securely fenced yard, and adopters who understand that the very best relationships are sometimes the ones that take a little time to build. Once you've earned Ziggy's trust, you'll have a loving, funny, cuddly best friend who will happily spend every day by your side.

Farfel's Rescue would like to see Ziggy continue with positive reinforcement training. A virtual or in-person force-free training class helps build confidence, strengthens the bond between dog and adopter, and sets every rescue dog up for lifelong success. Because of this, we're looking for adopters who are committed to continuing Ziggy's training journey. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement trainers.

Ziggy is available for adoption now! Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ziggy please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.
