He is one of the sweetest, funniest, most lovable dogs I’ve ever had in foster care, and absolutely everybody who meets him falls for him.<br/><br/>Zeus has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare connective tissue disorder that affects his collagen. Because of this, his skin is extremely delicate and tears very easily, so any injuries need to be treated carefully right away. He also has chronic eye issues and is partially blind due to severe scarring that was never treated before coming into care. His vision is limited to little “windows” directly in front of him.<br/><br/>In June, Zeus will be receiving an eye filler procedure to help keep his eyelashes from turning inward and irritating his eyes, since he cannot safely undergo regular entropion surgery. We don’t know how much it will improve his vision, but it should help make him much more comfortable. He will also need lifelong daily eye medication, which costs about $150 per bottle every few months.<br/><br/>And somehow… none of this stops him from being the happiest, goofiest boy.<br/><br/>Zeus adores people more than anything. He is cuddly, calm, gentle, and so incredibly affectionate. He loves meeting humans, walks beautifully on leash, is non-reactive, respectful with cats, and does well with well-mannered dogs (he just doesn’t appreciate dogs barking in his face constantly). He’s the kind of dog who just wants to be close to his people and included in whatever you’re doing.<br/><br/>Whoever adopts Zeus needs to understand that he will always be a medical dog. He will need ongoing care, monitoring, and someone willing to stay on top of his skin and eye needs. But in return, you get one of the most special dogs imaginable.<br/><br/>A giant gentle soul with the biggest heart. Truly one of a kind.<br/><br/>Special boy. Special needs.
