Zester's Story

Meet Zester!

Zester is a 1-year-old Black Labrador Retriever/Border Collie mix with a story that proves just how resilient dogs can be. She was found as a stray, severely emaciated and suffering from two broken front legs. Thanks to the incredible support of the 15/10 Foundation, she received specialized orthopedic care at Veterinary Specialty Services in St. Louis and the University of Missouri.

By the time Zester came into rescue, her legs had already begun healing, making reconstructive surgery impossible. After three months of dedicated crate rest and rehabilitation, she has exceeded everyone's expectations. Today, she's happy, active, and pain-free in her day-to-day life. She occasionally holds up one front leg during especially enthusiastic play, but there is no swelling, and she's thriving. One leg is more affected than the other, and while amputation may be needed in the future if it becomes necessary for her comfort, her specialists recommend waiting unless she shows signs of pain. If that day ever comes, the 15/10 Foundation has committed to covering the cost.

Now, Zester is ready for the next chapter of her life! She graduates from the Puppies for Parole program on August 7 and is looking for the forever family she deserves.

Zester is an absolute joy to be around. She loves playing, splashing in the water, and spending time outdoors. She's a quick learner, listens well, and is eager to please. One of her sweetest quirks is proudly carrying her toys over to "show" them to anyone who comes to visit. When she wants affection, she'll sit back on her hind legs for pets or gently rest her head on your shoulder for cuddles. She is great with kids and other dogs also!

After everything she's overcome, Zester hasn't lost her love for life. She's affectionate, intelligent, resilient, and ready to fill her forever home with loyalty, laughter, and love. Could you be the happy ending she's been waiting for?
