Zeke's Story

Meet Zeke!

Zeke is a handsome, approximately 1-year-old German Shepherd looking for an active family that understands the breed and is committed to continuing his training. He's incredibly smart, eager to learn, and has made amazing progress in foster care.

Zeke landed in a rural shelter as a full grown puppy who had never been trained. He was excitable, mouthy, and energetic. He had no manners because he was never given any direction and then abandoned by his family. Zeke has been thriving in his foster home with a human who has spent a lot of time working with him and teaching him how to be a dog.

Zeke is now fully crate trained, fully potty trained, and knows a variety of commands including sit, down, wait, come, stop, slow, okay, quiet, and hush. He walks well on a leash but can still pull when he gets excited, so he'll benefit from continued practice.

Zeke does well with dogs he has had the opportunity to get to know through slow, proper introductions. Once he's comfortable, he enjoys spending time with his canine friends and loves to play. Because of his need for slow introductions, any resident dogs should be introduced gradually.

He is not a good fit for a home with cats due to his prey drive.

Like many young German Shepherds, Zeke is energetic and doesn't always realize how big he is. He loves meeting new people and will happily lean into you for attention, but he can be a little enthusiastic with his greetings. For that reason, we'd recommend a home without small children.

Zeke is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and prevention, and has gone through slow-kill heartworm treatment.

Zeke has come a long way and continues to blossom every day. He's looking for a family that will provide structure, exercise, and love in return for a loyal, intelligent companion who will be by your side through it all. If you love this breed, you will love Zeke!

Meet and greets and adoption trials are available. You can apply on our website:

BridgeBetweenAnimalRescue.org/adopt

We require approved applications before potential adopters can meet any of our pets, (unless we are at a public event with adoptable animals). Our adoption process is as follows: the first step is to submit an application on our website in the "adopt" tab. Then we will need to receive any veterinary records for current or previous pets. Once those are received, we reach out to references, and then set up a home visit and meet and greet for the pet the potential adopter is interested in.
