Zeke's Story

Meet Zeke! Our Newest Rottwn Rottie!

Zeke is an absolutely stunning young male Rottweiler. He was found as a stray and brought to Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, where he ultimately ended up on the euthanasia list. While at the shelter, he was friendly with staff and caused no issues. Even the veterinary team was able to handle him easily. If you've ever owned a Rottweiler, you know the vet can be a challenging environment for them.

The reason he was placed on the euthanasia list was due to dog reactivity reported in the shelter lobby, as well as his finder mentioning that he reacted to other people and dogs while on leash. This type of behavior is common to the breed and in high-stress shelter environments. With consistency and proper training, it can be managed or overcome.

When I met Zeke, I didn't see any reactivity at all. I took him out of his kennel, walked him into a play yard, and navigated past other dogs. He even sat calmly outside his kennel while we readjusted his leash with other dogs barking just a few feet away, and he didn't react. He stayed focused on me and sat patiently.

However, just because I didn't witness reactivity during our initial meeting doesn't mean it never occurs. Once we get to know Zeke better and observe him across different settings, we'll have a clearer picture of what support and environment he needs to succeed.

Regardless of why he was on the euthanasia list, after meeting Zeke and seeing what a wonderful dog he is, we knew we had to save him. We don't know his exact age, but he appears to be between 1 and 2 years old. So far what we have seen from Zeke is a smart, even-tempered, affectionate, and gentle boy.

As we spend more time learning his personality, likes, and dislikes, we will update his profile.

At this time, we do not know how he does with other dogs, small animals, or children, but we will try to test him in as many different environments as is safe and appropriate.

We truly believe Zeke is going to make an amazing companion, and we look forward to helping him build the life he has always deserved!

If you are interested in meeting Zeke or any of our adoptable dogs, please visit our website at http://www.rottenrottie.com and complete our adoption questionnaire.

Adoption Process:
If you are interested in adopting one of our fun-loving, "not-so-rotten" Rotties, you will be asked to fill out our adoption application which allows us to get to know you better. This ensures the dog you are interested in is a good fit for your family and lifestyle. You can access our Adoption Application by visiting our website at http://www.rottenrottie.com, click on Adopt a Rottweiler, Adoption Application, and submit the form online.

After reviewing your answers, if we feel the dog you are interested in is not a match for your family, we may recommend a different Rottweiler companion. Once we determine which dog is best for you, we will schedule a meeting at their current home, where they feel most comfortable and act naturally.

We require a home check to ensure each dog is going to a safe environment. To finalize the process, an adoption contract must be signed. We also require a rehoming fee, which is typically $500 for most adults and $350 for seniors (6 years and older) or Rottweiler mixes of any age (excluding puppies). Fees for puppies fluctuate depending on the investment required for the litter and whether they are purebred or a mix. These funds are necessary for our organization to continue rehoming Rottweilers in need.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and have tested negative for heartworms. Each dog comes with a collar and a leash. We also address any injuries or illnesses they had upon arrival or developed in foster care; any such conditions will be fully disclosed to the adopter prior to the adoption.

Please Note: In almost all cases, we do not adopt to out-of-state applicants. On rare occasions, if we feel it is a PERFECT match for both you and the dog, we may make an exception for our neighbors in Las Vegas. If you live in Las Vegas and would like to be considered, please fill out our adoption application.

Our Adoption Process If you are interested in adopting one of our fun-loving, not-so-rotten rotties, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire. This allows us to get to know you better and make sure the dog you are looking at is a good fit for your family and lifestyle. You can access our questionnaire by visiting our website, www.rottenrottie.com, clicking on the forms tab, filling out the questionnaire, and submitting it online. After reviewing your answers, if we feel that the dog you are interested in is not a good fit for you and your family, we may recommend a different rottweiler companion. After we determine which Rottweiler(s) is the best for you, we will set up a time to meet him or her at their house, where they will feel most comfortable and act as they usually do. Finalizing the adoption requires an adoption contract to be signed, and we ask for a rehoming fee. For most of our adults, a typical rehoming fee is $400. Most of our seniors over 6 years of age, and our Rottweiler mixes are typically $250. Fees for our puppies fluctuate based on our investment in them or their litter and whether they are purebred or mixed. These funds are necessary so that our organization may continue to rehome Rottweilers. ALL of our dogs are sterilized, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, and come with a collar & a leash. We also address any injury or illness they had when they came to us or received in foster care. We will disclose the problems to the adopter prior to adoption.

Our Mission
We are a small rescue group consisting of 5 directors and only a handful of volunteers. We became a corporation in November 2011, and it is our goal to save as many purebred Rottweilers as we can from being euthanized or becoming homeless. We are looking for foster homes and, of course, donations are a large factor that p...
