Zara's Story
Because we are all volunteers, Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus only considers approved applicants to meet our orphans in our foster homes. Please read our eligibility requirements and apply on our website: www.ildoberescue.com/adopt. After an application is submitted, additional inquiries can email dobes@ildoberescue.com.

Meet Zara, a sweet and gentle 3.5-year-old girl who is just beginning to experience what it means to be loved and cherished as a family member. Zara was previously used for breeding and discarded without a second thought, but now, in her foster home, she is learning what it means to be safe and cared for.

Zara is a shy and sensitive soul, and she will need a special adopter who understands her fears and is patient enough to help her gain confidence. While she is very sweet, Zara is understandably afraid of new things and situations, so her forever family should be prepared for a slow and steady journey.

Zara is mostly crate trained and housebroken, as long as she’s let out frequently and on a consistent schedule. A calm, resident dog would be ideal to help her adjust and feel more comfortable in her new environment. She also gets along with dog-savvy, chill cats, although she does have a bit of a prey drive when it comes to squirrels, so keep that in mind if you have a cat in your home.

This precious girl will need a securely fenced yard, as walks on a leash will likely take time due to her fear of the outside world. A quieter, suburban or rural home will be much better suited for Zara than a busy city environment. Zara should not be introduced to new people until she has fully adjusted to her new surroundings, which may take several months, so she is not currently suited for a home with small children.

Her foster mom has noticed that Zara is slowly becoming braver and more trusting, but she still has a long way to go. If you’re someone who can offer Zara the time, patience, and love she deserves, you will be rewarded with an incredibly sweet and loyal companion. If you think you could be the right match for Zara, please reach out or apply today. She’s ready to begin her new chapter, and with your help, she’ll blossom into the loving dog she was always meant to be.
