Zara's Story

ZARA is an adorable Red Shepherd mix who is just 1 year old and fully grown at 45 pounds. She's a very sweet and perfectly medium sized girl. She's not only beautiful but she also has a wonderful temperament and loves everyone she meets. <br/><br/>Zara LOVES to give affection and please her Foster Mom. We tried to capture in her photos....she can actually balance on her back lets and will come and give you hugs and kisses. She thrives on love and wants to both give and receive it. Zara is a happy girl & plays very well with other dogs. <br/><br/>Zara will be a wonderful family dog who would love a doggie sibling but could easily be a solo dog with an active and affectionate family. We think she'd do best in a suburban setting with a fully fenced in yard so she can romp around and play to her heart's content. Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
