Zara's Story
Meet Zara 🐙

Zara here is believed to be a shepherd mix of some sort. She's got the cool fur coloring and patterning of a shepherd, but it's all wrapped up into a small 30lb bundle size. She's still a younger girl, estimated to be about 7 months, but we don't believe that she will get much larger than she is currently.

Zara came to us after she was found on the side of the road with some gnarly bite wounds. We cannot be sure how long she was out running around, but it's obvious that her bad experience with whatever she tussled with is sticking with her. She does not like being picked up, and she does not like being touched on her back end or being touched without noticing you there. She's skittish and unsure about a lot of things, and she definitely needs someone who's willing to work with her to gain her confidence and feel safe and secure with her surroundings. Zara would do best in a home with no cats, and preferably no kids - or at least older kids who have learned to respect a dog's boundaries. She also doesn't seem that fond of dogs (who can blame her?) but seems to do okay with dogs who aren't energetic or in her face.

Zara is also still a puppy, so she's still play bites. She also does not seem to be crate or house trained, and she could use a little bit more work on her leash manners. She's a typical puppy who hasn't been taught what's expected of her, and she needs a little patience and grace while she figures everything out - especially after what her life was out on the run.

This little pup got off to life on a bad start, but with some work and dedication, she has the glowing potential to be a lovely companion. 🐾
