Yuki's Story

About Yuki:
Breed & Age: Purebred Australian Shepherd, born August 2019 (7 years old). Spayed, microchipped, and frequently taken to vet (full medical paperwork available).
Ideal Home Environment: A quiet, low-stress home with adult females or older children. Must be a no-small-children and no-other-dogs household.
Personality & Demeanor: Completely house-trained, crate trained, and loves sleeping in bed with her humans. She is affectionate once comfortable and well-behaved when left alone to roam free.
Special Needs & Temperament Details:
Children & Other Dogs: She cannot be around toddlers or small children due to fear-based nipping triggers. She displays dominant/herding behavior around other dogs, so she must be the only dog in the home. She tolerates cats (may chase, but has never shown aggression or harm).
Fear Triggers & Men: History of abuse from a previous male owner left her deeply fearful of men. She barks around men and needs a gentle, patient female handler. When overwhelmed or startled by fast movements, she submits by rolling over or having fear-accidents.
Crate & Separation Anxiety: She is crate trained, but can experience sudden anxiety spikes where she panics and attempts to break out of enclosures (metal, plastic, or hard-walled kennels). We have attempted vet-supervised trials of Prozac and Trazodone up to max doses, as well as exploring behavioral training. She actually does remarkably well left free to roam the house without destroying property or doors.
Vision: Her eyes have a milky appearance (possible cataracts), so a predictable, calm layout helps her navigate safely.
We love her deeply, but due to her complex triggers, she needs an experienced sanctuary environment.
If you have a peaceful, female-led home, experience with high-anxiety rescue dogs, and space in your heart for a sweet girl who needs a safe haven, please fill out a pre-adoption form at helpfrommyfriends.org!
