Yogi's Story
MORE PHOTOS AND A VIDEO TO COME. WAITING ON THE FOSTER HOME, BUT DIDN'T WANT TO DELAY HIS BIO ANY LONGER.

Originally from the USA, he was adopted there from a shelter and has a DOB: 04-15-23, just a young guy, 3 years old.

His person was very elderly and recently moved back to Ontario to be closer to family and with failing health will be in an assisted living facility and Yogi unfortunately couldn't join her, so Yogi was welcomed by Mattie's Place June 12.

Yogi is just a really good boy. Friendly and sweet to all. 12 pounds of love to give whoever he meets.

Yogi was admitted to our veterinarian upon arrival and got all his medical brought up to date, including a dental.

Yogi weighs in at 11 pounds. He's a chihuahua and that said, incredible loyal and full of so much love to give.

His ideal home is with someone home most often or can take their dog to work. Though he'd be perfectly fine with visiting kids, a home without kids is likely more his vibe as a little guy that's spent his life to date on the lap of a senior.

He'll chase the cats in his foster home, so a home without cats is best. I'd love for him to be a solo dog so he can get ALL the attention and love to himself, because that's what he craves most, but will consider a home with a resident dog, if that home has a second adult in the space so there are 2 equal laps.

Yogi is not left home alone often in his foster home, but for the times he has been alone there has not been any separation anxiety shown. But Yogi is a lover and this boy needs to give his human love as often as possible, so being left home alone really isn't going to bring him an abundance of joy for any long periods on the regular.

I'm not sure what Yogi was using to potty when living with his senior but he doesn't know how to signal to go out. He is currently wearing a belly band inside so he doesn't potty indoors. I think with time and consistency he can move past this as it's very likely missed potty training with his original senior owner.

Yogi is chihuahua, therefore he can live up to 20 years old. So, Yogi has a lot of living left to do. Adopters must be age appropriate to maintain a dog lifestyle for the next 20 years.

Yogi is a really sweet boy that has seen a lot of changes in his short life, with living in a USA shelter to cross country moves and then having to say good-bye to his person. I'm really looking for stability for Yogi as he is such a good dog and really deserves for the rest of his life to be the best of his life.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Yogi is a completely sweet little gentleman. He loves to make new human friends, and although it takes a little longer than humans, he also likes to make dog friends too.

He has been getting along really well with his foster siblings but is still not sure about our cat. Sometimes the urge to chase and bark is too strong to resist.

Yogi really loves to cuddle with the humans in the home. And he doesn't seem to have favourites. He'll snuggle with residents and visitors with equal commitment.

When he's feeling a little uncertain - like when the cat comes too close - he likes to get as close as possible, but otherwise he's happy with a lap or even just beside.

Yogi doesn't seem to really understand how to play with toys. He seems to prefer playing chase with a similar-sized friend. But even when he's having so much fun he has great name recall. We have done laps of the back yard on leash, and he has lovely leash manners.

He really enjoys his meals, but is happy to leave a little in the bowl if he's not especially hungry. He takes his meals in his crate and gives a little squeak to let us know he's had enough. He also has wonderful mealtime manners when humans are eating. He likes to watch, but seems to be more out of curiosity than wanting to share.

His crate is his happy place and he knows its for his exclusive use. He sleeps well all through the night and has lots of tail wags in the morning. He doesn't take himself off to bed on his own, but he also doesn't mind us helping to get him tucked in for the night.

Yogi is not quite sure of how to let us know he's would like to go outside for potty, but its clear he prefers to go outside rather than puppy pads. He is still finding his place in his foster home and as a result, he has been marking his space. We're working on this with regular and frequent outside breaks.

Yogi is a very sweet boy who is happy to curl up and watch TV or if the mood strikes, he'd be equally happy to expend some energy on a walk or playing chase.

His main goal is to be with those he loves.

---------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.

----------------------------------------

Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic.
