Xyla (VA)'s Story

Meet your new best friend Xyla! Her foster mom thinks she may be a beagle/rat terrier mix and she is about 7 years-old. Whatever she is, she's full of personality and is full of love for everyone! Xyla is 17 lbs. and good with adults, older children, and other dogs. She loves to play with toys, get belly rubs and snuggle with her favorite human. Xyla is prone to sore paw pads on her front and for this reason can’t be walked on a regular basis. Not to worry, New Rattitude is working with a veterinarian to determine the source of Xyla’s paw irritation and will hopefully develop a solution. Other than avoiding regular walking on hard surfaces, Xyla has no problem chasing her toys around the house or zooming in the dog park. Xyla loves treats and praise, so she's easy to train. She is currently working on "sit", "down", "shake", and "stay".

Xyla enters her crate on command and is content to stay there while you’re out or overnight. She is happiest when pressed against her human, so would prefer to lounge on the couch with you and sleep on the bed at night. Xyla is reliably house-trained and can be safely left alone in the house.

Xyla does have some reactive behaviors left over from her past life. Due to this, she is not recommended for homes with small children. She will bark, whine, and beg in order to make her desires known, whether it be more treats or to be let out of the crate. Xyla can also react to other dogs or noises/activities outside of the home. Any potential adopter should be willing and able to consistently encourage good behavior from Xyla. Once she knows that you’re in charge and she doesn’t have to be, she is happy to be a carefree, easy dog.

Xyla is a real snugglebug, touch is her love language, and is the life of the party.
