Ximera's Story

Meet Ximera (affectionately called "Zee Zee")! 💕🐾

If you’re looking for a best friend who is sweet and gentle with a heart of gold, Zee Zee may be your girl! This beautiful pup is so loving, all she needs is that special person. She does have some puppy energy and enjoys going for walks and is doing pretty well on a leash. She could possibly be a good candidate for agility training with her sleek build and speedy running. Ximera loves spending time with her people and will cuddle up in your lap or lie beside you on the couch. She does like to lightly mouth your hands but that is getting less and less as she self-corrects or stops when told. Ximera has the typical herding dog instincts and would probably do best in an adult household. She is more partial to women, but does like men also, she's just a bit more timid with men. She can be a little shy when first meeting people or when there are quick movements that she doesn't understand, but she comes around very quickly.

Ximera has a mild to medium energy level and seems calmer than many of the heelers I’ve met. She loves to play with the fosters' dogs and gets along well with them. She likes playing with toys and will dig to the very bottom of the toy box to find the best ones! She likes having a tug-of-war with her foster siblings and also racing down the yard to check things out. Zee Zee settles easily after play time. She does well in her crate overnight and when crated a few hours in the day, but she is not a dog who should be left in a crate for hours on end.

Zee Zee is getting much better about not jumping up to greet you, but you might have to remind her to sit instead. She is getting very good at sitting for attention. Zee Zee very much wants to please and will train easily. Overall, Ximera is a wonderfully sweet and manageable girl. She’s still getting to know the world and would benefit from a patient family who can continue helping her learn, to feel comfortable, and to give her exercise. A fenced yard would be ideal for her to run and play, and another doggie buddy to play with would be even better.

We’re not sure how Ximera feels about cats just yet. She did have a pretty intense stare-down with a feral cat, and her interest appeared more prey-driven, so a cat-free home may be the safest fit unless proper introductions and management are possible. She also is very interested in chasing squirrels and lizards.

Most importantly, Zee Zee has a joyful heart and is *VERY, VERY SWEET*. ❤️ She has such a happy face and a gentle spirit, and she deserves someone who will give her the chance to blossom into the wonderful companion she can be.

Come meet Ximera and let that smile steal your heart! 🐶💕 Ximera is being fostered in Ormond Beach, Florida.
