Xena's Story

Meet Xena, a beautiful 4-year-old Doberman and proud DRM alumna. Xena first came to us as a tiny puppy in 2021 and was adopted in 2022. Through no fault of her own, she recently returned to DRM when her family fell on hard times. Just as our adoption contract promises, every DRM Doberman will always have a safe place to come back to—because once a DRM dog, always a DRM dog.

Xena is deaf, which makes her extra special, but it doesn’t hold her back one bit. She is in excellent health, a quick learner, and has already mastered several hand signals. She currently understands sit, come, go, and treat, and is working on stay, wait, stop, and more. Xena thrives on engagement, and learning sign language has truly opened up her world. She loves the challenge and connection it brings with her person.

This sweet, loyal girl enjoys stuffies, ropes, and the occasional favorite bone. She’ll happily toss toys around on her own and bounce with excitement when she’s ready to play. At home, Xena is affectionate and deeply connected to her person. She quickly settles into routines, enjoys free roaming the house, and has done well being crated for short periods when needed. At night, she loves to curl up on the bed and has learned to relax with movement around her, staying cozy under the covers.

Xena gets along well with cats and is friendly with both men and women. She hasn’t been fully tested with children or other dogs, so introductions would need to be handled thoughtfully. Because of her hearing loss, Xena will require a fenced yard or the use of an e-collar vibration signal/long line to keep her safe outside. She depends on body language and sign cues to understand her environment, so her forever family will need to be committed to communicating with her through training, patience, and love.

Xena is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager to connect. She’s looking for a forever home that will cherish her for the amazing dog she is and continue building her confidence with sign language. Could you be the one to give Xena her second chance at forever?

This fabulous foster is a Doberman Rescue Minnesota foster dog.

Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. http://dobermanrescueminnesota.com/adoption-steps/

Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN.

All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
