Xena's Story

Hi, I'm Xena.

I know... when you walk by my kennel, I probably don't give you the best first impression. I bark. I growl. I look like I want you to go away. But please, don't take it personally-I'm just really scared in here. I'm 11 years old, and I lived in the same home for 10 years. That was my whole world-my people, my bed, my routine. I don't understand why I'm here, and the shelter stress makes me act tough. But truthfully? I'm not tough at all. I'm just anxious and heartbroken.

Take me out of the kennel, and you'll see the real me. I'm gentle. Sweet. I warm up quickly, and I love to be near you. Don't let my age fool you, though-I still have a ton of years of fun ahead of me if you give me a chance! I still wag my tail, I love playing with toys, and I'll gladly be your reigning tug-of-war champ if you let me.

I'm past the puppy chaos now, and what I want most is peace, a calm environment, and a soft place to rest with someone who understands me. Because I've been through a lot of changes lately, I am very protective of the things that make me feel safe, like my food and those toys I love so much. I do exhibit resource guarding and will need an experienced, patient family who knows how to respect my boundaries.

I also prefer to be the center of your universe as the only pet in a quiet, mature household.

I just need someone patient enough to give me a chance to show them who I am, even if I'm a little rough around the edges at first. If you can give me the time, space, and understanding I need to decompress, I promise to give you my whole heart in return.

Love,

Xena
