Woodson's Story

Always the bridesmaid...Sweet Woodson can't catch a break and, somehow, he keeps on being passed over.Even though he is THAT FRENCHIE, who everyone is shouting at us for...

Here's what his foster mama has to say about him:

He is the bravest, friendliest, smartest, sweetest guy on the planet. You would never know what he is dealing with or what he has been through. He is a curious little fireball with a true heart of gold, to match his now beautiful and golden fawn coat.He loves all creatures, human and otherwise. He learned the dog door within the first 48 hours, and hasn't had an accident in the house since. We've maybe never had a more perfect pup!

AND, he's still a frenchie so:Although SUPER cute and so yummy & silly, most of our dogs have come from yucky backyard greeders and so, will 100% need to have owners committed to their unique long-term care, health, and wellbeing.

Here are just a couple of things that we need to ensure every French Bulldog adopter understands and is comfortable with.

All Frenchies MUST HAVE A FULL-SERVICE vet and at MINIMUM an ANNUAL vet appointment. Big-box store vets or mobile/discount shot services are just not going to cut it.

Here's the BIG ONE: thanks to their breeding, ALL Frenchie parents have to be ready to manage and IMMEDIATELY treat an episode of IVDD: IVDD 411

All Frenchie parents must be willing to make the time for daily maintenance and grooming: our Frenchies love their spa time and need (at minimum) all of those folds and crevices cleaned that make them so dang cute. It's a sign of your commitment and care.

Bulldog adopters have to be willing to administer eye drops; all those folds make for grumpy eyelids.

Last but not least, all lucky bulldog parents should expect to manage the ongoing cost of all the goodies associated with loving a bulldog: including but not limited to: high-quality food, eye drops, medicated shampoo, monthly heartworm prevention, fun toys, vet care, and endless scritches and cuddles (This last one is free)

PHEW - that's a list, but these guys are so worth it. Your commitment will be rewarded with the love and joy these Frenchies bring into your life.

Once you go Bulldog, there's no going back to 'regular' dogs!

Lovely boi is heartworm-positive, so he must stay close to our vets for his treatment.Don't worry; heartworm infection is way LESS scary than it sounds, and our team will provide all guidance for his care.

To see more of our dogs, please go to https://austinbulldogrescue.com to see who is available and to learn how to get involved with ABR.

Austin Bulldog Rescue's Adoption Policy
Austin Bulldog Rescue will consider adoptive families in the Austin, surrounding areas, and the northwest San Antonio area. This is simply due to logistics and distance of travel for our volunteers. Our goal is to make the best rescue match taking into consideration the Bulldog’s background and your family’s needs. Every Bulldog is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right Bulldog with the right adoptive home, because we want this to be the dog's permanent home. If you are willing to wait for the right rescue to be matched to you, you are an ideal candidate for ABR. As our success rate proves, these precious dogs are well worth the wait. If acquiring a dog is a time sensitive issue for you or your family, rescue may not be for you.
