Wisky's Story

Meet Wisky, a Talented, Active, and Affectionate Boy! 🐾
Breed: Corgi Date of Birth: December 15, 2021
This young boy has made incredible progress and is now ready to find a committed, experienced home that will continue helping him thrive.
________________________________________
His Journey & Progress
When he first came into care, there were several challenges to work through:
• Not house-trained and marking indoors
• Could not be handled (no brushing, bathing, nail trims; his nails were severely overgrown)
• No basic obedience
• Would run off with no recall
• Prey drive toward small animals
• Resource guarding toward other dogs (food and toys)
• Two redirected bites toward a human (as previously discussed)
• Demand barking when he wants something — he definitely enjoys being the center of attention
• Aversion to chicken, can cause allergies so another protein is advised
Where He Is Now
With time, patience, and training, he has progressed beautifully:
• Fully house-trained
• Can now be brushed, bathed, blow-dried, and have his nails trimmed (clipper or Dremel) once trust is established
• Still uncomfortable being picked up or with certain veterinary handling, but manageable with proper support (I assist during vet visits)
• Knows many commands: sit, down, roll over, paw, spin, play dead, and understands leash cues
• Excellent recall
• Extremely intelligent and eager to learn
Prey drive is still present, and resource guarding with other dogs remains for food and toys, so he would do best as an only dog or with very experienced management.
________________________________________
His Strengths & What Makes Him Special
This boy is an incredible athlete and partner for someone active!
• Runs in canicross/traction (has his own pulling harness)
• Competes in agility and is a beginner, but in class training he’s at the Master/Advanced level
• Participates in sprint competitions — and absolutely shines!
• Loves swimming (even if his little back end doesn’t always keep up )
• Does canine fitness exercises and is in great physical condition
• Has an excellent nose and could excel in scent detection work
• Extremely food motivated (maybe a little too motivated — keep treats out of reach! )
• Very smart and learns tricks quickly
• Loves car rides
• A big cuddle bug — loves belly rubs and will roll onto his back
• Adores people
He truly bonds deeply with his person. However, he does not like being picked up unless trust has been established. He needs someone who respects his boundaries and allows him to build confidence at his pace.
________________________________________
Ideal Home
He would thrive with:
• An experienced, confident handler
• An active lifestyle (sports, running, agility, scent work, etc.)
• A structured environment
• No small animals
• Ideally as the only dog
• Someone who understands resource guarding and prey drive
He is healthy, athletic, affectionate, and incredibly driven. In the right home, he will be an outstanding sport partner and a loving, loyal companion.
