Winston's Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Winston. Who doesn't love a little nubbin?! When Winston's family had a change of life - they needed to rehome him. We happily said yes. He's just over three years old and 24#, and if you couldn't tell - a purebred Corgi. Winston is very sweet, lived with children and is in a home with another dog. We think kids over 8 would be a good fit.

Corgis are known for being smart, energetic, bold, and loyal companions with big personalities, often acting like a "big dog in a small package" due to their herding background, making them great but sometimes a bit stubborn and he will need consistent training, play, and mental stimulation to prevent boredom and bossiness.

Winston was not neutered, so that was the first step with our veterinarian. He's in recovery from surgery. He is microchipped and fully vaccinated with DHPP and Rabies. While we were told he is housebroken, because he was intact - his owners said he occasionally likes to mark. However, his foster has been providing him a potty routine and he's done great. He will likely need a continued routine. He's all about the cuddles, doing wonderful in his crate!

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood. Applications may be approved in just a few days depending on how quickly references respond. If you are planning on a vacation or have an issue that may delay your ability to pick up within a few days of approval, please let us know in advance.

Adoption fee is $425. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
