Winston's Story
Please read our Core Values prior to applying at www.furryfriendsnetwork.com/adopt/our-expectations.

Update 3/6/2026

Reintroducing Winston – Two Years in Foster Care. Still Waiting.

Winston came into foster care at just 6-months old. Over two years later, he is still waiting for his forever family. We truly cannot understand why this incredible, one-of-a-kind companion hasn’t received applications yet. He is so deserving of a home to call his own!

Winston recently moved to a new foster home so we could learn even more about him for potential adopters. He has acclimated well to his new environment, showing just how adaptable and resilient he is.

We always knew Winston was a unique mix — just look at him! With his magnificent ears, perfectly curled tail, and soulful eyes, he turns heads wherever he goes. His DNA results show:
• 37% Mountain Cur
• 21% Boxer
• 21% Labrador Retriever
• 12% German Shepherd
• 9% Collie
• 100% Good Boy

Winston weighs 47-pounds, is housetrained, and crate trained. He waits patiently in his crate while you’re away, and when you return home, his tail “helicopters” with excitement to greet you. He knows how to “sit” and “down,” but has a quirk: he’ll only perform them on a soft surface. What a comfort king!

He has lived with many different dogs throughout his extended time in foster care and gets along well with canine companions. Winston would love a dog sibling to play with, snuggle with, and keep him company when you’re away.

Winston is very alert and keenly aware of his surroundings — his tall ears are always listening, and his intelligent mind is always working. He doesn’t miss a thing! Because of his love for adventure and his strong interest in critters, Winston will need a securely fenced yard where he can safely gallop and explore.

He enjoys daily walks and thrives when he has the opportunity to explore the world around him. On walks, Winston is very observant and likes to keep moving. He also loves car rides and has been known to enthusiastically hop into any open car door.

After exploring, he loves to snuggle and will happily curl up on the couch with you for hours. He is also accustomed to sleeping in bed with his humans at night.

Winston bonds deeply with his people. He will alert you to strangers coming into your home or by your car. Like many dogs, he benefits from proper introductions to house guests and does best when given a moment to assess the situation. Once he realizes everything is okay, he’s very excited to make a new friend!

At his yearly check-up, Winston earned an “A++” behavior report from the veterinary team, who appreciated his sweet and endearing personality.

Winston has not been around cats and would not be a good fit for a home with feline companions. He has also not lived with small children. While he is a sweet boy, he would likely do best in a home with older children due to his activity level.

After two years of waiting, Winston is more than ready for a forever family. He has grown into a loyal, loving, and intelligent companion who simply needs someone willing to give him a chance. Could that be you? 🐾

Adoption application, home visit and adoption fee required. If you would like to apply for adoption, please complete the online application at www.furryfriendsnetwork.com. Look under ADOPT tab. Contact generalinfo@furryfriendsnetwork.com for questions or if issues are encountered with the adoption application or general adoption process.

Foster Homes are desperately needed in order to help more animals like this one. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless animal. To find out more about becoming a Foster Parent, see our website at www.furryfriendsnetwork.com. Look under VOLUNTEER tab.

As part of our adoption agreement, we require that you and your adopted canine attend a minimum of one group basic obedience course within 4 months of adoption. If adopting a puppy under 4 months old, we also require a group puppy socialization course be started immediately upon adoption.

In addition, we require that puppies under 6 months of age will not be alone for more than 4 hours at a time in an 8 hour workday. We highly encourage working families to consider older puppies and adult dogs, but if your heart is set on a puppy, please consider doggie daycare.

Pet ID: Stephanie G
PA Kennel License # 5011
