Winnie's Story
Winnie is a 2-year-old black and tan Doberman whose human mom had to move to take care of her own mom so she gave Winnie to her son. Her son was military and, unfortunately, he had to go overseas, so he gave Winnie to DRNV. Prior to her spay, we discovered her copper level is elevated, so we need to first place Winnie with a foster for four months while we treat the elevated enzyme with a special medicine to flush the copper and reset her baseline. She will need to continue with special copper-free food and a few supplements. Winnie is a very sweet girl who is a little reserved at first but then loves to play and cuddle. By discovering and treating this elevated enzyme so early, Winnie is expected to live a very normal life.
