Winnie's Story

WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
Hiiiii!!! I’m Winnie!

ARE YOU A BOY OR A GIRL?
I’m the most adorable little lady!

HOW OLD ARE YOU?
Our best estimate is that I am around 2-1/2 years old at the beginning of 2026.

WHAT BREED ARE YOU?
I am a French Bulldog.

HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH?
I am a perfectly proportioned 20 pounds of cute!

WHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE?
Is “adorable” the right answer here? Because that’s what I look like! I am a little fawn-colored potato with big ears, adoring eyes, and the cutest Frenchie pout ever.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO EAT?
I love food!! My meals are a combination of kibble plus some tasty fresh food to make it exciting. And I have discovered just how amazing cheese and peanut butter are! More of that please!

WHAT KIND OF PERSONALITY DO YOU HAVE?
I am the most perfect combination of sweet and spicy. I have my opinions about ALL the things, and I am not shy about sharing my thoughts. But deep down I am a love bug who just wants to kiss you and show you how happy I am to be with you. I am learning how to be a dog and am enjoying playtime, but just in short bursts with plenty of naptime in between.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY:
That’s an easy one! Let’s have some food (obviously), a couple walks to check out the goings-on in the neighborhood, some playtime with a dog friend, lots of naps, and close out the day with bedtime cuddles.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TOY?
Oh boy, do I ever! I love ALL the toys. But I do have a favorite. He’s a little blue rhino that has a ball for a belly, makes a fun squeaky sound, and his arms and legs are soft so I can nibble on them. I love my rhino!

DO YOU KNOW ANY TRICKS?
I am very good at “sit” and I am working hard on “place.” Foster dad is teaching me to go to a particular spot on command, and he is so proud at how quickly I am learning. I am pretty smart! It helps that I am food motivated (did I mention the cheese and the peanut butter?), so learning is a lot of fun!

WHAT SCARES YOU?
I am a little wary of new people and need to give them a few barks so they know not to mess with me. But once I realize the stranger is actually a friend, I will show them my love bug side, and we will be best friends for life!

HAVE YOU BEEN AROUND CHILDREN?
I have been around kids of all ages, and I did really well. But I would do best with older kids who will not be afraid when I jump up due to my excitement.

DO YOU LIKE CATS?
I think I’ll stick to dogs and humans, thanks!

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT OTHER DOGS?
I am having so much fun with my foster brother, Jasper! He’s a little rat terrier and we have a great time playing. With proper introductions, I would love to have a buddy to play with!

IF YOU COULD BE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
I would be happy anywhere that there are people who love me and feed me and play with me… Yes, it really is all about me!

HOW IS YOUR HEALTH?
You saw that I am a Frenchie, right? Yeah, so if you know, you know. I have some skin allergies so I take Apoquel to keep the itchies away, and I should have regular skin/coat maintenance like cleaning my skin folds, wiping my paws, and taking care of ear infections that crop up from time to time.

WHO DO YOU LIVE WITH IN YOUR FOSTER HOME AND WHO IS YOUR CLOSEST COMPANION?
I live with my foster mom and dad, and their two rat terriers. I don’t play favorites between the humans. They both love me and take good care of me. And I do love playing with my foster brother, Jasper.

WHERE DO YOU HANG OUT WHEN YOU ARE HOME ALONE?
For the few occasions that they leave me alone, I am a very good girl to just chill in the house. I don’t get into any mischief at all.

WHERE DO YOU SLEEP?
Bedtime is just one big pajama party in foster mom and dad’s bed with all three of us dogs! I love to burrow under the covers and sometimes I steal my foster dad’s spot. Hee hee!

DO YOU LIKE WALKING ON A LEASH?
I am a very good girl on leash! We go on a couple walks a day, and I just love to explore and check out all the sights and smells.

DO YOU HAVE ANY “NOT SO GREAT” HABITS THAT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
As I mentioned earlier, I do have some “stranger danger” tendencies and will bark at new people until I realize they’re not a threat to me and my people. It’s usually when I am on leash that I feel the need to alert everyone to potential dangers, and I am not as defensive off leash.

ARE YOU HOUSE TRAINED (DO YOU GO POTTY OUTSIDE)?
I am! Just tell me where you want me to go and have patience with me as I figure out the routine, and then I’ll be all over it!

DO YOU LIKE WATER?
I get baths regularly to help with my itchies and, well… I will tolerate them, but I don’t think it is accurate to say that I “like” water. Oh, and since I am a Frenchie, I am just not built for water activities, so I need to be kept safe around pools or other large bodies of water, please!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR FOSTER FAMILY?
What’s not to love? My foster mom and dad have kept me safe and they take such great care of me. My foster dad works from home, which is super great since I love being with humans the most! And I have a dog friend to play tug with, which I am learning is a lot of fun!

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOUR FUTURE ADOPTER?
Oh geez… I have SO much to tell you! Let’s get this party started and we will be best friends in no time! I can’t wait to meet you because I am sure you are my person and will love me forever and ever!

If you are interested in Winnie, please jump on our website and fill out an adoption application - https://www.norcalbullybreedrescue.org/adoptables/winnie

For information on why our Bulldog fees are set as they are, please click on the following link:
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=5004742079644959&id=333019703483910&mibextid=qC1gEa

At this time we are asking for adopters to be in the Sacramento and IMMEDIATE surrounding areas.

For more information on what that means and why that is, please click on the following link:
https://www.facebook.com/333019703483910/posts/3264412130344638/?extid=0&d=n

Thank you so much in advance for understanding!

NorCal Bully Breed Rescue's Adoption Policy
**We are currently only adopting out to the immediate Sacramento area which includes Sacramento County, parts of Placer County and parts of ElDorado County. We currently hold adoption events once a month at the Pet Food Express store in the Roseville Fountains. Please check our Facebook page for announcements! ADOPTION PROCESS: The first step in the adoption process is the completion of our online adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.norcalbullybreedrescue.org. **Your application will not be reviewed if you do not live with the immediate Sacramento area which is Sacramento County, parts of Placer County or some parts of Eldorado County) The second step is the home check. Our main priority in this step is insuring that your yard is 100% secure - there can be no loose boards or gaps in your fencing. If your dog is going to be spending anytime outside while you are at work or away from home, we ask that you have adequate shade or shelter from the elements. Before we schedule a home check, we may ask you to send us photos of your yard/fencing to get an idea of where the dog will be living. If you have any hesitation or questions about our yard check, please see our section on "How to Prepare for a Home Check." The last step in the adoption process is the meet and greet. This is where we meet with you and any existing pets to ensure proper introductions are made. We want to make sure everyone gets along. Once all introductions are made, and everyone gets along, your rescue dog is yours to adopt. Please note that there is no pressure involved, and if situation that cannot be resolved arises, we will always take our dog back. Also, be aware that there is an acclimation period for each dog and every dog is different. It can take a few days or a few weeks for your new dogs to settle in. We will assist in any way possible, including referring our trainer to come work with you and the dog. ADOPTION PREREQUISITES: All of our dogs are rescues, meaning they have already needed help in some way, and will only to to homes where they will live a "CHARMED LIFE." All of our adoptive dogs will be indoor dogs with outdoor privileges. We believe that dogs are family members, and should be allowed to sleep indoors. The only time they should be kept outdoors is if the weather permits. Any applications looking for an outdoor only dog will be denied. All current pets in your home need to be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and one heartworm preventive. Out of area adoptions are within reason and on a case-by-case basis. HOW TO PREPARE FOR A HOME CHECK: Walk the perimeter of your yard. Take notes on the condition of your fence. Are there any loose boards or gaps under any sections of you fencing? If yes, these are easy fixes. You can nail any loose board back into place, and you can fill any gaps with pavers and gravel Do you have a lock on your gate? If not, please purchase one prior to your home check. Is there adequate shade or shelter for your new dog if it is going to be left outdoors while you're at work? Do you have anything hazardous in your yard, i.e. nails sticking out, chemicals left out, etc? Do you have a cat? If so, does your cat have a high spot it can retreat to if being chased? Are your garbage cans located somewhere near a gate where a dog can jump into them to get out? If so please move them. Please address these issues prior to our visit. ADOPTION FEES: All of our dogs will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped prior to being adopted. Our adoption fees are considered to be donations. All donations from adoption go right back into our rescue account, allowing us to continue to help dogs in need. At the bare minimum, the cost to properly vet a dog is $100. But some of the dogs we take on are medical cases, which can cost several thousand dollars. Because of this, we ask the following adoption fees: $500 for puppies, which are any dogs under a year old $300 for most adult dog aged 1 year or older. (French/English Bulldogs have significantly higher adoption fees which are explained on our website.)
