She’s an affectionate, spirited little companion who loves nothing more than being right by your side and curling up in your lap. She’s playful, curious, and wonderfully entertaining, with occasional zoomies and an impressive ability to hold her own around much larger dogs.

Winnie was rescued from an 80-Chihuahua hoarding case in Houston, where she came from a difficult environment and has come such a long way since entering rescue. She’s now fully healed from a case of mange, and while her beautiful coat is still growing back, she’s feeling good and ready for her next chapter.

Winnie is being fostered in Austin, Texas, and is available for adoption out of state. Transport can be arranged by the rescue once she is matched with an approved adopter. The adoption process includes an application, phone interview, video call with the foster home, virtual home visit, and vet and personal reference checks.

Winnie is a confident little dog who loves playing with other dogs. She enjoys a good chase and can happily play with much larger canine friends, including a 50-pound Bull Terrier.

Winnie has a moderate energy level and gets adorable bursts of zoomies when she’s excited or happy. She loves playing with her favorite stuffies and will happily retrieve them when you toss them. When playtime is over, though, she’s perfectly content to settle into her favorite spot: your lap.

And Winnie has no shortage of personality. She’s affectionate, funny, and loves being part of whatever is happening. She even tolerates wearing clothes, which is a good thing because her foster mom has a little gremlin sweater that looks pretty adorable on her.

Winnie is house trained and also crate trained. It’s not necessarily her favorite place to be, but she settles quietly in her crate overnight and during a typical workday. When left alone for shorter periods, she can be trusted outside of her crate, but longer absences are best managed with crating to keep her safe and out of mischief.

Winnie is still working on her leash manners. She tends to want to move at her own pace and may pull or rush ahead, and she has a habit of vocally greeting people she passes. Continued leash training and positive reinforcement will help her learn that walks are a time for calmly taking in the world.

Winnie is a sweet little girl who knows what she likes, especially when it comes to her favorite people and toys. She enjoys having her special things and will thrive with a family who can provide gentle guidance and a little structure as she settles into her new home.

Winnie has not been around children, so her comfort level with kids is unknown. She also has a strong instinct to chase cats, so a cat-free home would likely be the safest fit for her. She has done well with larger dogs, but because she can be bold and playful, any canine siblings should be introduced thoughtfully.

In the car, Winnie can be a little timid, but she has successfully mastered stairs and gets around just fine once she knows her environment.

Winnie is a tiny dog with a huge personality. She’s the kind of girl who will happily bounce around the room when she’s excited, confidently play with dogs much bigger than she is, then climb into your lap and settle in like she owns the place. She’s affectionate, funny, curious, and wonderfully spirited.

If you're looking for a little cuddle bug with plenty of personality, entertaining antics, and love to give, Winnie might be your girl.

__

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
