Winn Dixie (Zar)'s Story

I am a sweet, handsome, tall, thin, long legged, 88 pound dark gray/black male Bouvier, cropped and docked. I just turned ten years old the day they found me, September 23rd.

I am housetrained. I love to ride in cars. I am good eater. I looked like a big round dirty, matted unshorn sheep when they found me. I patiently sat for the groomer to cut off all that hair that was pulling my skin every time I took a step or tried to find a comfortable rest position. I also went to the vet and put up with all the poking and prodding. I feel a lot better now and sleep comfortably through the night.

Initially I stumbled when I walked but we think that is the Gabapentin. We are weaning off the Gab and the stumbling is much less. I love going on walks! I have a front right limp or unusual gait, but my limp doesn’t stop me for wanting to take walks. All four of us Bouviers in my foster home walk together for two thirds of a mile in the morning, and two thirds in the afternoon, and a short walk at lunchtime and also after dinner. I can do carpeted steps but it is a bit of a challenge. I might just be out of shape from not being cared for and having all those mats limiting my movement.

My birthday is 9/23 and I just turned ten years old. I was microchipped in TX as a puppy but the owner didn’t register me. I am still registered with the vet office who did it. I have no idea what happened between Age 1 and now. The police called the vet office and then the microchip owner but no one called back. I was found on a porch with another dog in Philadelphia.

I like to be in the same room or nearby household activity. When no one is home, I am fine hanging out in my crate. I sleep at night in my crate next to my person.

I do have a couple of things we'll need to work on in my new home:
Squirrels, cats, small dogs, I cry and pull when I see them. I was found with another dog, both of us sitting together on a porch. Maybe my dog friend was a small dog and maybe I think that is who I am seeing when I see a small dog walking? I don’t know.

The front right limp or odd gait will need watching.

I resource guard the sofa. I want to be the only dog when I am on the sofa. People are ok to sit next to me.

If you have room in your heart and home for me, please fill out an application at abrl.org. Contact his foster mom at (717)215-0674 or amy.wimmersberger@gmail.com for more information.
