Wilson's Story

Wilson came to us looking like someone loved him. His coat was clean, his collar looked brand new, and he carried himself like a dog who had known a home. Then no one came looking. Ever since, this happy, openhearted boy has been waiting for the family who will love him next.
Wilson is a brindle pit mix, around 3 years old, with a heart as big as his smile. He is playful, affectionate, and endlessly social, the kind of dog who greets you with a wagging tail and decides on the spot that you are his new best friend. He loves attention, he loves to play, and he has that perfect blend of goofiness and sweetness that makes him impossible not to adore.
He does well with older children and would fit beautifully into a home that wants a loyal, joyful companion for walks, playtime, and plenty of cuddles on the couch.
Wilson does not understand why he is still waiting. He just keeps meeting every new person with the same hopeful heart, ready to give it to whoever is lucky enough to take him home.
Someone loved him once. He is ready for someone to love him again.
Could that someone be you?
To meet Wilson or learn more about him, email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com.

Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
