Wilson's Story

LOCATION: Minden, Louisiana *Local adopter, or those willing to travel to Wilson for pick up.
DOB: 06/15/2020 (Estimate)

Wilson is a very sweet, sensitive boy who is still learning that the world can be a safe place. He can be extremely skittish at first and tends to be especially fearful of unfamiliar men, though he warms up to women much more quickly. Despite his fears, Wilson has made incredible progress in foster care and continues to gain confidence every day.

At home, Wilson is a gentle, goofy companion who loves affection and attention from the people he trusts. One of his favorite things to do is bury his head in your lap for love and cuddles. He also has an adorable habit of collecting and hoarding toys around the house. While he has playful moments, he is generally a calm, chill dog who is happy relaxing at home with his family.

Wilson is also an incredibly sensitive soul. If he is touched unexpectedly, he may let out a dramatic scream because he startles easily. It happens much less now than it used to, but it can still happen occasionally. His foster lovingly calls him “WooWoo Willy,” and it’s just one of the many quirks that make him so endearing.

Wilson does well with other dogs and has lived peacefully with several large dogs. He is also wonderful with cats. However, bunnies are not recommended. He has lived with children ages 4, 5, and 9 and does love them, though young children can make him nervous at times. Older, calmer kids who understand how to respect his space would likely be the best fit.

Wilson is house trained, crate trained, rides well in the car, and walks nicely on leash. He knows basic commands like “sit” and “crate.” Because his instinct is always to flee when frightened, he has no reliable recall and will require a securely fenced yard at all times.

He can be vocal when people or vehicles approach the home, so he would not be a good fit for apartment living. He is also very fearful during nail trims and currently goes to the vet for them.

Wilson’s ideal home would be a quiet, patient environment with people who understand shy or traumatized dogs. Someone who works from home would be wonderful for him, as he thrives on consistency and feeling secure with his people nearby. After four years in foster care, Wilson has come such a long way, but he will likely always carry some emotional scars from his past. He needs a family willing to continue giving him the patience, understanding, and unconditional love he deserves.

=========================
To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form!
https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176
Note: Wilson must be adopted locally OR the adopter must be willing to drive to pick him up. He is too skittish to go commercial or be handed off to multiple drivers.

All donation options, adoption applications, and important links are available here:
https://linktr.ee/Srgdrr

If donating, please note who or what your donation is for.

Team Rocky Enterprises, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
How Our Adoption Process Works Team Rocky Enterprises DBA Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehab (SRGDRR) follows a thoughtful adoption process designed to ensure the best possible match for both our dogs and their future families. Our available dogs are posted on our website, Facebook page, and multiple adoption platforms, including Petfinder. Once you find a dog you’re interested in, the process includes: 1. Adoption Application – This helps us learn about you, your household, and what you’re looking for in a dog so we can make the best match. 2. Veterinary Reference Check – We verify that current or past pets have received appropriate veterinary care. First-time pet owners are welcome and encouraged to apply. 3. Phone Interview – This is a chance for us to talk with you about the dog you’re interested in, including personality, needs, medical history, and any quirks. It’s also your opportunity to ask questions about the dog and our rescue. 4. Home Check – We confirm that your home environment is safe and appropriate for the dog, whether that includes a fenced yard or a leash-walking setup. This is not a housekeeping inspection—just a safety check. Once all steps are completed and approved, you’ll sign an adoption contract and submit an adoption donation. From there, your new forever friend will be ready to head home! Why This Process Matters Our goal is to match each dog with a home that best meets their needs. Some dogs thrive with experienced owners, while others do best with someone who is home most of the day or understands specific behavioral or medical needs. Taking the time to get this right helps ensure lifelong, successful adoptions. Our Lifetime Commitment If at any point you are unable to keep your adopted dog, you must contact us. We will always take our dogs back. We never want them to end up in unsafe situations or shelters again. Our responsibility to each dog lasts for their lifetime. Thank you for choosing rescue and for considering adoption with SRGDRR.
