Willie's Story

Willie and his littermate Hazelnut were set to be euthanized on May 24, 2026. Shelters in the Central Valley are especially full, with too many abandoned dogs of all ages and sizes. Larger breeds, even puppies, are the hardest to place.

Thanks to the caring people who were watching over the puppies at this shelter, Willie and Hazelnut were rescued just in time. Because we had foster homes ready, we could help when they reached out. The pups arrived at their ShepHeroes foster homes on May 25, Memorial Day, after a Pilots and Paws flight. Many people worked together over the holiday weekend to make this possible.

Willie is settling in at his foster home. Soon, he'll meet the senior cat and start learning from the resident shepherd, who enjoys having puppies around.

Like many shelter dogs, both pups came in with upper respiratory infections and worms. Willie has started a five-day course of Panacur to treat the worms and any possible Giardia or other parasites. He's also taking antibiotics. Once he's feeling better, we'll take him for his next round of vaccines.

Both pups are underweight, so we're helping them get stronger with a healthy diet.

We'll share more updates soon. Please check their bios for the latest news.

Have you checked out our YouTube channel?
