Willamena's Story

AN INQUIRY FROM PETFINDER IS NOT AN APPLICATION! READ THE ENTIRE POST FOR INFORMATION HOW TO APPLY.

Meet Willamena! Willamena is a 5-6 year old female shih tzu/maltese mix and she weighs about 16 pounds. Willamena arrived in rescue after coming from a home with too many pups that was unable to properly care for them. Her foster mom says: Meet Wilamena (aka: Willie)!! If you are looking for a dog who will truly be your shadow, look no further than Willie. This sweet girl needs a patient and kind heart to help her through her initial fears of a new environment. She will be timid at first and needs about 1-2 weeks to fully warm up to a new human and home. But once that trust is unlocked? You have never met a more loving, trusting, and cuddly companion. It’s 100% devotion from then on.

Social yet Devoted: Willie generally gets along wonderfully with people, other dogs, cats, and older children. However, she loves her person so much that she wants them all to herself! She can be protective of her human and may give a warning growl if other pets or people try to get near her people. She is simply saying, "This is my human, please give us space."

Her Ideal Lifestyle: Willie is the ultimate "Velcro dog." She needs to be touching you and will happily sleep in your bed every night. Because she loves her humans so fiercely, she does have separation anxiety. She is looking for a home where someone is around the majority of the time. (She will howl to let the neighbors know if you leave but acts like it’s been years when you return!).

The Good Stuff: She loves to ride in the child seat of a Lowe’s shopping cart, happily soaking up attention from shoppers! While generally not a big barker, she has her frisky moments and loves doing zoomies in the yard when the weather is chilly.

Potty: She is pee-pad trained (with occasional accidents slightly off the pad) and would love a backyard to do her business.

Leash: Currently learning the ropes of leash walking.

The name Willamena is of German origin meaning "Resolute Protector." This fits her perfectly! She is protective of her human and living up to her name—she is here to guard your heart and your lap.

If you are a homebody and you want a soulmate dog, Willie is the one!

Willamena is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and has had her teeth cleaned.

Willamena is fostered in the Orlando area and her adoption donation is $375. If you are interested in applying to adopt Willamena, please visit www.floridalittledogrescue.com to read the adoption process and complete an application! Please note that emails simply asking "Is this dog available" will not be returned, as applications are worked in the order received and availability largely depends on when you apply:) Please also know we do not adopt out of state! Thank you!
