Whalen's Story

Meet Whalen, a handsome 5-year-old basset boy who is ready for his next chapter. Whalen spent most of his life enjoying wide open acreage and farm living. He loved the space and he may have loved the chickens a little too much. Because of this Whalen will need a poultry-free home.

He is a really good boy with wonderful manners. Whalen is leash trained, crate trained, and loves riding in the car or truck. He settles nicely and enjoys being part of the action without needing to be the center of attention. Personality-wise, Whalen is a bit on the reserved side. He isn’t skittish — just thoughtful and observant. He may not immediately roll over for belly rubs from every new person he meets, but once he feels comfortable, his gentle and soulful nature truly shines. He appears to bond deeply with his people and thrives on steady companionship. Whalen would do best in a quieter home where he can truly relax and flourish. We believe he would do beautifully in a calm environment — perhaps with one or two laid-back canine companions to help him feel secure. He will definitely need a fenced in yard and a child free home or one with older children would probably be best.

Whalen is currently settling in with SBR, and we are enjoying getting to know more about his personality, quirks, and preferences. If you’re looking for a steady, gentle companion with a thoughtful heart and a love for adventure (especially truck rides!), Whalen may be your guy.
