Wesley's Story

Wesley / M / 7 months / 53lbs / Mixed breed (hound x Rottweiler?) / Fostered in Napanee

Wesley is an energetic and loving pup who is ready to find his forever home. With his striking eyes, ears that can't quite decide what they want to do, and his signature pretzel-curl lounging style, this boy is equal parts charming and hilarious. Wesley had a rough start in life and was removed from his previous home due to abuse. He had a dislocated hip when he arrived in our care but he had surgery to repair this and is doing wonderfully! He has completed his recovery and has resumed normal activity.

Wesley is one of those rare dogs with a resilient, unfazed outlook on life — seriously, even the delivery man at the door doesn't rattle him. He's playful, loving, and medium energy, with just enough puppy spark to keep things exciting. He's an eager learner who picks things up quickly, and he's working hard every day to become the best version of himself. Oh, and he loves trying new food — a true little foodie at heart.

Wesley is crate training like a champ. He sleeps through the night without fuss and can comfortably hang out in his crate for 3–4 hours during the day. He's made huge strides with his separation anxiety — he now trots happily into his crate at mealtimes and is learning to relax behind a baby gate without a worry in the world. He's still working on the "off" command and growing his confidence with alone time, but the progress he's made in just a few short weeks speaks to just how clever and adaptable he is.

Wesley is a gentleman on leash. He doesn't pull, takes corrections easily, and loves to stop and sniff every inch of the world around him — he reads all the neighbourhood blog posts. He's had minimal reactions on leash; there was one brief bark at a hooded figure walking toward him, but it was easily redirected. Overall, a very easy walking companion. His favourite things include snacks, soft toys, and adventure.

Wesley loves other dogs and plays well with them — no resource guarding, no drama, just good vibes. He does have a pret drive so no cats. He would be fine with kids 8+. When it comes to new people, he's open, eager, and ready to make a new best friend on the spot.

Wesley would thrive in a moderately active household with people who have time to train him, play with him, and help him grow. He's smart — he needs mental stimulation as much as physical. A home with some outdoor space and ideally another medium to large dog he can play with and learn from would be the perfect fit. He doesn't need a quiet, sedentary life, but he's not a whirlwind either — he's just right for a family ready to invest in an amazing dog.

If you are interested in adopting Wesley, please complete an adoption application on our website.
