Mom likes to joke with me that she can never figure out whether I'm sad or irritated based on my pouty lip. My answer to that is simply "I'm a bulldog!" Though my facial expressions may suggest that I am displeased with you, my heart tells a different story. <br/><br/>I was surrendered to Hope 4 Paws by my former family who had me since I was a young pup. My intake condition was not the best - I came in wearing a very tight, restrictive chain with severely overgrown nails and skin that was falling off in chunks. The staff rushed me to the hospital after a concerning bowel movement and found that I had a skin infection that was left untreated for YEARS, leaving me excessively itching and causing some stretched out skin in my midsection. My veterinarian also determined that I have a thyroid condition that causes a reduced metabolic rate causing me to struggle to shed weight. The staff here has placed me on a weight loss program, and I am doing very well with this regimen. I am currently on medicine to manage my hypothyroidism but will need to be regularly retested at the vet. Don't worry though - I am a PAWESOME patient and love to shmooze with all the techs at the hospital. <br/><br/>Like any good bulldog, I am a lazy fella who enjoys short walks and long naps. I'm not a huge fan of this heat but do thoroughly enjoy splashing in my kiddie pool and playing with the hose. I previously live with a kitty roommate but am not quite sure what to make of my doggie neighbors as I was not previously socialized with dogs. I may have the potential to coexist with a large breed female dog but would certainly prefer being your one and only pooch. I have landed my patooty in some trouble with mom who explained that it is not good behavior to bite onto things and swing from them. She reassured me that it is not my fault as she understands I am now trying to unlearn 6 years of encouraged behavior. If you have a shirt tied around your waist, loose rope or anything else that resembles a tug toy I am going to grab it and try to play with you. It is an innocent game to me, but I can understand why it is not the best practice. For this reason, I am best suited for a home with children twelve and older.<br/><br/>Now that we got that out of the way, it's time to highlight all the things I'm GREAT at. I walk wonderfully on my leash and am easily managed by all levels of volunteers at the shelter. Did I also mention that I am one of the friendliest boys you could ever ask to meet and greet everyone like an old friend. I love chasing my squeaky balls in the yard and will also climb into your lap to give you a hot stinky kiss. I am housetrained when kept on a consistent schedule and will hold my potty habits and give a little cry when I need to go out to use the restroom.
