I am the true definition of a goofball, with plenty of fun, silly quirks just waiting to be discovered. I hope you like that about me! I am filled with joy, and ready to bring a little sunshine and happiness to your life, every single day that we're together. I'm a playful, cuddly, sweet little fella, with so much love to give. I feel nervous and unsure at various random times, too, so I will look to you for comfort and support. Above all else, I love and trust my people. I've been through so many challenges already in my short life, and I'm still learning and growing. But I'm ready and excited to start the next chapter of my journey, and I hope it will be with you!<br/><br/>I'm a darling, 1-year old, 42-pound bundle of love, with cute perky ears, the sweetest face, and a happy, charming, delightful personality. I'm already housebroken, too, as long as you keep me on a regular schedule and get me outside for plenty of breaks, especially as I'm learning my new routine with you. I was transferred to Wayside from a shelter in New Orleans that didn't have space for me. I was just starting to settle in when I had a fall that fractured my leg. I felt like I had hit rock bottom. It was all a blur for a while. Surgery, vet care, pain, bandages, therapy...it was my new normal. Then a miracle happened when Foster Mom came into my life. She took me home and gently nurtured me back to health. It hasn't been an easy time for either of us, but we made it! I'm on a couple of medications, which I take like a champ. But my cone is off, my bandages have been removed, I'm slowly regaining my strength, and life is just simply incredible! Best of all, I'm now ready to find my forever family. Ah, that sounds nice.<br/><br/>It took me no time at all to make myself right at home in foster. For now, I use a ramp to crawl up on the couch and curl up right next to Foster Mom for affection and snuggles. We both love this special time together. And frankly, everyone I meet is my new best friend and playmate. I've never met a stranger. Sometimes I'm jumpy and overly excited when I greet people, inviting them to play. Foster Mom is great at redirecting me and encouraging visitors to stay calm with me. I have been crate trained, but it makes me so sad when they leave, and sometimes I let out a high-pitched whine to let them know that I'm not happy, but I quickly calm down and chill while they're away. At night, I peacefully sleep in the bedroom on my dog bed, carefully rearranging all the blankets each night before I drift off to sleep. I'm mostly well-behaved in the home, but I am a curious boy who sometimes gets into things he shouldn't.<br/><br/>I love my toys! They make me happy and they comfort me. I like chew toys and puzzle toys that encourage me to use my brain. But my favorite is to pick up a small, soft toy and carry it around or to hold it in my mouth. It is a way of calming myself and helping me relax, and it is adorable. It's easy to redirect me if I happen to pick up something that's not mine. Ever since I got my cast and cone off, I have discovered just how fun life can be. I love to play fetch and go on long walks with lots of good sniffs. I get very invested in play sessions and need someone who can handle my energy and excitement! While it takes a lot to tire me out, once I am tired, I love to cuddle. I am one smart cookie, and my training sessions help keep my brain engaged. I know sit, stay, down, leave it, shake, and place. Please use positive reinforcement with me by praising and encouraging me when I'm a good boy, so that I can continue to gain confidence as I learn about and experience the world around me.<br/><br/>I currently live with a cat in my foster home. We've learned to co-exist, and she even likes to play with me sometimes. I am used to a social cat, though, and may need to be reminded that many cats like space. A slow introduction and reminders to "Leave it" should help me remember! If you have other dogs or kids under the age of 10, I will need to meet them before we go home together to make sure that we're a good match. I will likely be happiest with dogs who are tolerant and playful. I spent time with several active kids, ages 3-10, when Foster Mom babysat one day, and we all got along well. I was friendly, silly, and polite. Mostly, I'm looking for a home with kind people who will love me as they laugh at my goofy quirks and antics, understanding that uniqueness and originality make life more interesting. Chasing bugs, holding toys for comfort, rearranging blankets, occasionally being wary of grass...it's just how I roll.<br/><br/>Sometimes life throws you a curveball that you never see coming. At the moment it happens, it doesn't really seem fair, but time has a way of giving perspective. I quickly realized that it wasn't the event that defined me, but the way I chose to react to it, the unexpected love and kindness that was showered on me, and the way everything since that day has prepared me to live my best life. And I'm ready to do just that. I've worked hard to get to where I'm at, and I'm ready to now live a happy and carefree life. I hope it will be with you.
