WALLY-VIRGINIA's Story

*PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HIS FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

Meet Wonderful Wally: an 8-year-old male 68 lb. Labradoodle who is in an IDOG foster home near Centreville, Virginia.

FAST FACTS about WONDERFUL WALLY:

*AGE: 8 years (born March 2018)

*WEIGHT: 68 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is recommended as he loves to run freely when he wants. We will consider a home without a fence for him depending upon the plan for him to get exercise/potty. No electronic or invisible fences will be allowed.

*COAT TYPE: Medium shedding; he is shaved short right now but see his photo of his longer hair. He will need regular brushing and grooming once his coat grows out to prevent matting. Grooming costs are around $120/grooming session and he needs to be groomed every 8 weeks or so depending upon how long his coat is kept.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Wally loves to go for longer walks in the cool mornings and likes to chase squirrels and meet people. In the backyard on a cool day he will play chase with the ball for about 8-10 throws. He loves at least 1 long walk (1 mile +) and normally 3 shorter 15 minute walks every day. He does love to walk and has walked 4 miles and been nicely pooped at the end.

*DOGS: Yes! He is very excited to see other dogs. He is very quiet and submissive with any dog that barks at him. His prior owner said he is great with all dogs he has met and has no aggression around other dogs and will roll over and show his stomach. He would love to have another dog in his new home.

*CATS: His foster family doesnt have cats and hasnt seen him with cats; his prior owner said he is great with cats and was great with their rabbit.

*KIDS: Yes! Wally loves kids! He lived with kids ages 5 and 9 in the past and he was good with them however, he is still learning manners, and would love to work on not jumping up on those he is happy to see! Older dog-savvy kids would be ideal for this sweet boy based on his size.

*CAR: Wally is learning to get in the car. He can jump in, but normally will not jump into the car on his own and requires a ramp or a boost to get into the SUV.

*CRATE: His prior owner said he was crate trained but he doesnt need the crate when in his foster family as he is good when no one is home.

*HOUSE TRAINED: YES! Wally is fully house trained!

*LEASH: Wally walks on a leash with a harness. He was not walked a lot before coming into rescue and is learning to walk beside his foster rather than zig zagging in front of the foster. He also is very strong and does best on a restraining leash.

*AT THE VET: Great! Wally loves going to the vet.

*VETTING: Wally is neutered, house trained, microchipped, current on core vaccines, dewormer, and heartworm/flea tick preventives. He is heartworm and fecal negative.

*WITH GROOMING: His foster family has not taken Wally for grooming, but his owner said he was sensitive around his feet. His foster mom touches and wipes his feet regularly with no issues.

MORE ABOUT WONDERFUL WALLY:

Wally is a complete love bug! He was surrendered to IDOG by his owner who went through a divorce and she was working long hours and felt Wally wasnt getting the love and attention he deserved. She said he is a truly great dog who deserves better so asked IDOG for help in finding him a new family to love on him and make it him part of their family.

Wally loves to go for longer walks in the cool mornings and likes to chase squirrels and meet people. In the backyard on a cool day he will play chase with the ball for about 8-10 throws. He does 1 long walk at least 1 mile and normally three 15 minute walks every day. He does love to walk!

Wally would love a fellow four legged friend to spend his day with and it might help him learn getting in the car can be fun! Wally is not currently crated. His foster mom has left him up to 5 hours with no problems! Very chill boy. He is left in a large confined area and there are never any problems with chewing.

He is so sweet and loves to cuddle and will regularly bump his head against you to remind you he is there for you...he is a wonderful friend. He is a Velcro dog and will follow his foster mom everywhere...he is almost always within 1 foot of you. He loves people and other dogs and will roll on his back for belly rubs....and he will stay there for a long time if you let him.

He loves his soft Kong chewy stuffed animal and will throw and chew it regularly. He also enjoys a dental stick most days and loves pupperoni sticks. Wally is very excited by mozzarella cheese or other small treats like a piece of steak or salmon. Wally is not the biggest fan of getting into the car and would love help gaining confidence with that. Wally does love to jump on beds and couches, so a family needs to be relaxed about this behavior.

IDEAL TYPE OF HOME:
Wally would thrive in a home where he is not left alone all day and one that is pretty casual. He likes to be with his foster mom all day and lays quietly at her side. He would be a solid work from home companion and would benefit from another dog in the house.

Adjectives that describe Wally, besides wonderful:
-Velcro
-Chill
-Loving
-Loves to be petted and will roll over on his back for belly rubs
-Gentle
-Playful
-Confident
-Snuggly
-Submissive
-Affectionate

Activities that Wally enjoys:
*fetch
*walking
*hiking
*chew toys
*squeaky toys
*cuddling
*meeting new people
*he loves to chase flies! Not sure if he has caught one yet.
*playing with other dogs

A few needs work items for Wally:
-jumping up to say hi!
-continued work learning how to jump in the car. He is fine once he is in he just doesnt like to jump in to the car.
-he loves to find your lunch on the counter and you may turn your back and it is gone!

ADOPTION PROCESS DETAILS:
*Please read ALL the information in Wally's listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.
*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).
*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Wally please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.
*You must complete our adoption application fully. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.
*You can check the status of his adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.
*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

ADOPTION FEE: $500

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR Wally-Virginia PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

IDOG Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
BEFORE YOU APPLY Please consider all aspects before applying to adopt a dog. Rescue dogs usually come with a few issues and we prefer applicants that have realistic expectations and dog experience. We prefer a physical fence in most cases but will consider this on a case by case basis. Please read through all the information on our website before completing the application. To adopt one of our dogs you MUST first complete our online application. We do require an interview. In addition, a home visit will be required. We only adopt dogs to families who will keep them as inside pets. If you are not willing to work with your new rescue dog and let them get to know you at their own pace, please don't apply for one of our dogs. Returning a dog within 24-48 hours of picking it up is hard on the dog. Rescuing a dog is a lifetime commitment and if you give your all, you will get a great friend in return. They need time and patience. WHO WE ARE IDOG Rescue is a national U.S. foster-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization and has remained in good standing with the IRS since 2006 when IDOG was created. IDOG has been offering rescue and rehome services to Doodles, Standard Poodles and Poodle mixes since 2006. We have helped over 3,700 Doodles and Poodles to date. IDOG Rescue was the first specific rescue for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles and is endorsed by both the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and the Goldendoodle Association of America. IDOG is an approved Rescue Partner in shelters across the country and has an outstanding reputation for helping Doodles in need, no matter what color, age or health status. LOCATION OF DOGS IDOG has dogs in foster homes all over the U.S. Please see the location listed in the dog's name (for example, Toby-TX is located in a foster home in TX). In most instances, you will be required to live within driving distance of where the dog is located and to visit the dog in person. IDOG does not ship or transport dogs unless this option is stated in the listing. Shipping is stressful on the dog, and stressful for the volunteer who has to spend many hours preparing the dog and the paperwork, transporting and waiting at airports. It is not simply a matter of paying the shipping charge. We will only ship a dog if we cannot find it a home near where it is being fostered. ADOPTION FEES All of our IDOGs have an adoption fee that is non-negotiable and non-refundable. OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. We will require the adoption fee be paid prior to or when we transfer the IDOG to its new family. The adoption fee helps IDOG with the expenses related to the care of all of the dogs in our program and is not directly tied to the expenses incurred for that particular dog. Adoption fees allow IDOG to continue doing our life-saving work as we are 100% dependent upon adoption fees and donations to cover the costs of the dogs in our care. Each dog is assessed individually to determine the adoption fee. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming, and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs, or are heartworm positive. Adoption fee covers the cost of spay/neuter, core vaccines, fecal test/dewormer, heartworm testing, heartworm/flea/tick prevention and microchipping. All IDOGS are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. HOW TO APPLY To apply for any of our dogs, please complete the application on our website: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application REHOMING ASSISTANCE - FOR FAMILIES WHO NEED TO FIND A NEW HOME FOR THEIR DOODLE/POODLE IDOG Rescue also provides assistance and support for people who need to find a new home for their family pet - our motivation is to get these dogs into homes that understand the temperaments and needs of these energetic, playful & loving dogs.
