WALLY-MAINE's Story

*PETFINDER INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AFTER READING HIS FULL ADOPTION LISTING. THE ADOPTION APPLICATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

*PLEASE CLICK "Show more" below to continue reading about Wally.

Meet Sweet-hearted Wally: an 8-year-old male 68 lb. Labradoodle who is in an IDOG foster home near Kennebunk, Maine. Wally is ready to slide right into life and spend his time with his forever family!

FAST FACTS about WALLY:

*AGE: 8 years (born March 2018)

*WEIGHT: 68 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is recommended as he loves to run wander and play the occasional game of fetch. We will consider a home without a fence for him depending upon the plan for him to get exercise/potty. No electronic or invisible fences will be allowed.

*COAT TYPE: Medium shedding- He has the Labrador undercoat but the curly Poodle coat on top so will need regular brushing to prevent matting. Grooming is needed every 6-8 weeks and costs approx. $120/session.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Wally is super relaxed but still loves to play when the feeling strikes! He loves a good daily walk and still enjoys short fetch or frisbee sessions when he gets that puppy vibe! Afterward hes back to his favorite thing, hanging out next to his people! And a nice treat never goes amiss!!

*DOGS: Yes! He is very excited to see other dogs. But once up close, Wally is very quiet as a dog approaches him. He has shown no aggression and will roll over submissively to show his tummy. He would do well in a home on his own or with another dog but kindly asks no puppies please.

*CATS: His foster family doesn't have cats and hasn't seen him with cats; his prior owner said he is great with cats and was great with their rabbit.

*KIDS: Wally enjoys kids and would thrive with those who are dog savvy as he is still learning manners. He is a tall guy and would love to work on not jumping up on those he is happy to see! Older dog-savvy kids would be ideal for this sweet boy based on his size.

*CAR: Hes a GREAT traveler! Lays down and will quietly ride for hours! He does still need work on getting into the car. He normally wont jump in on his own and requires a ramp or a boost to get in.

*CRATE: His prior owner said he is crate trained but hasnt used one since joining his foster family. He enjoys the run of the house and is a perfect gentleman when left out to roam. He sleeps on his own bed next to his fosters bed at night.

*HOUSE TRAINED: YES! Wally is fully house trained!

*LEASH: Wally walks well on a leash with a harness. He was not walked a lot before coming into rescue but has improved so much!! He now does well on walks but can still get excited to see another dog. Due to his strength, continued training, a harness, and a gentle leader or other training leash to continue improving is recommended.

*AT THE VET: Great! Wally loves going to the vet.

*VETTING: Wally is neutered, house trained, microchipped, current on core vaccines, dewormer, and heartworm/flea tick preventives. He is heartworm and fecal negative.

*WITH GROOMING: His foster family has not taken Wally for grooming, but his owner said he was sensitive around his feet. His foster mom touches and wipes his feet regularly with no issues.

MORE ABOUT SWEET, LOYAL WALLY:

Wally is a complete love bug! He was surrendered to IDOG by his owner who went through a divorce. She worked long hours and felt Wally wasn't getting the love and attention he deserved. She said he is a truly great dog who deserves better so asked IDOG for help in finding him a new family to love him.

Wally is an incredibly loving and chill boy! Everyone who meets him falls in love and comments how sweet and calm he is. His favorite thing in the whole world are his people!! Second on the list are cuddles, hugs and belly rubs! He will bump his head against you to remind you he is there. He's an absolute Velcro dog! If you ever arent sure where he is just look down and he's bound to be near!

Although he'll bark when someone comes to the house, once in the door they're his dear friend and expected to love on him!! Everyone who has met him at his foster moms wants to take him home!

Walks are also high on his list and he's such a good boy! He still does need some work to temper his excitement when he sees another dog along the way. He's not aggressive at all but just cant wait to say hello! He's super smart and learns easily so should get better at this with a little work. After his walk, he's happy to just hang out with his people wherever they may be!

While Wally would love a fellow four-legged friend to spend his day with he could easily be an only dog. He's incredibly adaptable and adjusts to new situations quickly as long as he's with his people. Wally does love to jump on beds and couches, but recommend setting good boundaries for him not to do that as that is when he thrives!

IDEAL TYPE OF HOME:

Wally would thrive in a home where he can spend most of his time with his people. He's a Doodle, after all! His people are everything to him! Older, dog-savvy kids would be fine but, even though he's incredibly gentle, given his size toddlers and little ones may get accidentally bumped. Another dog to spend time with would be wonderful but Wally isn't picky so its not necessary. Wally just wants someone to love him as much as he loves his people!

Adjectives that describe Wally, besides wonderful:
-Velcro
-Chill
-Loyal
-Loving
-Loves to be petted and will roll over on his back for belly rubs
-Gentle
-Playful
-Confident
-Snuggly
-Submissive
-Affectionate

Activities that Wally enjoys:
*fetch
*walking
*hiking
*chew toys
*squeaky toys
*cuddling
*meeting new people
*he loves to chase flies! Not sure if he has caught one yet.
*playing with other dogs

A few needs work items for Wally:
-jumping up to say hi!
-continued work learning how to jump in the car. He is fine once he is in he just needs help getting in.
-he loves to find your lunch on the counter and you may turn your back and it is gone!

ADOPTION PROCESS DETAILS:
*Please read ALL the information in Wally's listing before applying to ensure you understand what he needs to be successful in his new home.
*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).
*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Wally please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.
*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.
*You can check the status of his adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change his status to adopted when he is adopted.
*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt him before we will schedule a meet & greet. We do not transport our dogs.

ADOPTION FEE: $400

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies & highly adoptable dogs have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting & expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board & train costs, medical/health issues & surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees & our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR Wally-Maine PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

IDOG Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
BEFORE YOU APPLY Please consider all aspects before applying to adopt a dog. Rescue dogs usually come with a few issues and we prefer applicants that have realistic expectations and dog experience. We prefer a physical fence in most cases but will consider this on a case by case basis. Please read through all the information on our website before completing the application. To adopt one of our dogs you MUST first complete our online application. We do require an interview. In addition, a home visit will be required. We only adopt dogs to families who will keep them as inside pets. If you are not willing to work with your new rescue dog and let them get to know you at their own pace, please don't apply for one of our dogs. Returning a dog within 24-48 hours of picking it up is hard on the dog. Rescuing a dog is a lifetime commitment and if you give your all, you will get a great friend in return. They need time and patience. WHO WE ARE IDOG Rescue is a national U.S. foster-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization and has remained in good standing with the IRS since 2006 when IDOG was created. IDOG has been offering rescue and rehome services to Doodles, Standard Poodles and Poodle mixes since 2006. We have helped over 3,700 Doodles and Poodles to date. IDOG Rescue was the first specific rescue for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles and is endorsed by both the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and the Goldendoodle Association of America. IDOG is an approved Rescue Partner in shelters across the country and has an outstanding reputation for helping Doodles in need, no matter what color, age or health status. LOCATION OF DOGS IDOG has dogs in foster homes all over the U.S. Please see the location listed in the dog's name (for example, Toby-TX is located in a foster home in TX). In most instances, you will be required to live within driving distance of where the dog is located and to visit the dog in person. IDOG does not ship or transport dogs unless this option is stated in the listing. Shipping is stressful on the dog, and stressful for the volunteer who has to spend many hours preparing the dog and the paperwork, transporting and waiting at airports. It is not simply a matter of paying the shipping charge. We will only ship a dog if we cannot find it a home near where it is being fostered. ADOPTION FEES All of our IDOGs have an adoption fee that is non-negotiable and non-refundable. OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. We will require the adoption fee be paid prior to or when we transfer the IDOG to its new family. The adoption fee helps IDOG with the expenses related to the care of all of the dogs in our program and is not directly tied to the expenses incurred for that particular dog. Adoption fees allow IDOG to continue doing our life-saving work as we are 100% dependent upon adoption fees and donations to cover the costs of the dogs in our care. Each dog is assessed individually to determine the adoption fee. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming, and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs, or are heartworm positive. Adoption fee covers the cost of spay/neuter, core vaccines, fecal test/dewormer, heartworm testing, heartworm/flea/tick prevention and microchipping. All IDOGS are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. HOW TO APPLY To apply for any of our dogs, please complete the application on our website: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application REHOMING ASSISTANCE - FOR FAMILIES WHO NEED TO FIND A NEW HOME FOR THEIR DOODLE/POODLE IDOG Rescue also provides assistance and support for people who need to find a new home for their family pet - our motivation is to get these dogs into homes that understand the temperaments and needs of these energetic, playful & loving dogs.
