Vivian's Story

Meet Vivian!

The Little Purse Dog Who Deserves Her Pretty Woman Ending!

Just like Vivian in Pretty Woman, our Vivian found herself lost in the city with absolutely no idea how she ended up there — except unlike the movie, nobody came looking for her. This sweet little girl was dumped at a dog park in Houston, left behind like she was disposable.

Thankfully, she was found by someone who knew she deserved so much more. And around here, one man’s trash will always be our treasure.
Vivian is estimated to be 4–5 years old and weighs just 9 pounds, making her the perfect little purse-sized companion.

She is absolutely ADORABLE, incredibly sweet, wonderfully friendly, and quite possibly one of the biggest queens of affection we've ever met. If you’re looking for a tiny dog who wants to be your best friend, your shadow, your lap warmer and your personal cuddle buddy, Vivian would like to submit her résumé.
And this little girl has been through more than she ever should have.

When Vivian came into rescue, she had a gumball-sized hernia that needed to be removed. She has since received the medical care she desperately needed, including having the hernia repaired, being spayed and fully vaccinated.

Her veterinarian also noted that it appeared Vivian had been bred multiple times. We suspect that when she was no longer able to produce puppies, she may have been discarded by someone who saw her as nothing more than a source of income. We believe the previous owner may have even mistaken the lump around her nipple for a tumor when it was actually hernia-related.

Whatever the reason, Vivian was thrown away when she should have been cherished. And honestly? That says everything about the people who abandoned her and absolutely nothing about the incredible little dog she is.
Today, Vivian is safe. She is loved. She is spoiled. And she is finally learning what it feels like to be somebody’s baby instead of somebody’s breeding machine..

We believe Vivian is likely a Chihuahua/Papillon mix or Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, although without DNA testing, we're just making our best educated guess. Whatever she is, she is 100% adorable!

Vivian is great with cats and does well with other dogs. She enjoys playing and absolutely loves having canine friends around.

However, Vivian has discovered that being someone's lap dog comes with one very important rule:
THE LAP IS HERS!!

If she's happily curled up on her person's lap and another dog comes over, Vivian may occasionally give them a little “Excuse me, this seat is TAKEN” nip or snap. We jokingly call this her tiny diva attitude because, apparently, being 9 pounds means she has appointed herself CEO of the household!

To be completely transparent, this is something we want her future family to know. We have only observed this behavior when Vivian is sitting on her person's lap and another dog approaches, and she otherwise enjoys playing and interacting with dogs. She is not a mean dog whatsoever — she's just a little possessive of her favorite human and would prefer to have 100% of the attention, 100% of the time.
And honestly, can you blame her? After everything she's been through, maybe she's just making up for lost time!

That said, if Vivian is going to have canine siblings, her family will need to be mindful of this little quirk and continue working with her on sharing her person and understanding that she doesn't have to protect her lap.
Rescue transparency is incredibly important to us because we aren't looking for a temporary home for Vivian. We're looking for her FOREVER home. We want her future family to know the whole Vivian — the sweet, affectionate, playful little cuddlebug AND the tiny 9-pound lap queen who occasionally has a little more spice than she knows what to do with.
Vivian has spent enough of her life being treated like she wasn't worth keeping..

Now it's her turn to be someone's spoiled little princess!

She's safe. She's healthy. She's ridiculously cute. She's overflowing with affection. And she's ready for the chapter where she finally gets her Pretty Woman happy ending!

Vivian is proof that sometimes the greatest treasures are the ones someone else was foolish enough to throw away!
