VICTORIA's Story

Meet VICTORIA!

Victoria is about 37 lbs and 4 years old. We are pretty sure she’s a Lab mix!

Victoria’s story begins in Puerto Rico, where she was rescued by the founder of our rescue while visiting her grandmother in Arecibo. The area where Victoria was found is unfortunately known as a dumping ground for abandoned dogs on the island.

Victoria appeared suddenly one day, completely alone. It was clear she had recently been dumped. When we examined her, we could tell she had likely nursed puppies not long before being abandoned. Wherever her puppies were, Victoria was left behind.

She was rescued in May 2025 and brought to a trusted boarding facility while we made efforts to find her a forever home! Sadly, Victoria has now spent almost a full year in boarding in Puerto Rico, largely due to what rescuers often call “black dog syndrome”, where wonderful dogs who are black are often overlooked in shelters and rescues.

Because we believe Victoria deserves the best chance at finding the right home, we have invested THOUSANDS of dollars into her training and care! She deserves this! She recently completed two weeks at a professional highly respected board-and-train program, where she learned:

• Basic commands like “sit” and “down”
• Excellent leash manners (she walks beautifully!)
• Confidence socializing around other dogs
• Structure that will help her thrive in many environments, including busy neighborhoods or cities

Victoria has done phenomenally in training and continues to impress everyone she meets! The trainer said she is doing so so well!

But beyond her training, what makes Victoria special is her heart! <3

She is incredibly affectionate and deeply bonded to the people who have been caring for her. Check out her videos to get a sense of her loving personality! Her trainer describes her as sweet, loving, and eager to please. She’s very trainable!

She also does great with kids, especially older children who can match her energy! She has been child tested (check out the adorable video of the child walking her)!

In training, she has spent a lot of time working on proper introductions with other dogs which should be continued with her new owner.

Victoria loves spending time outdoors and would thrive with an adopter who enjoys walks, adventures, or simply spending time together.

After waiting nearly a year, Victoria is more than ready for a family of her own! She’s not just looking for a home, she’s looking for someone who will never abandon her again.

Please feel free to email us with any questions about her! The best fit for the dog is our priority.

Please make sure you are ready to properly exercise and give a dog all it needs for fulfillment. Your ongoing time and day-to-day commitment are the most important things in caring for a dog.

In addition, we cannot guarantee breed of any dog, exact age or expected adult size of a puppy. Please note that even house-trained dogs will need help transitioning to an adopter's home and schedule. Thank you for understanding.
