Vera’s FAQs

What is Franklin Animal Shelter’s adoption process?

All potential adopters must complete an application to adopt an animal from FAS. Applications are screened by the Shelter Manager. Because part of our application includes reference s (the most important being veterinarian references), applications can generally not be reviewed on weekends. Once a person is approved to adopt, he or she can then select an animal from those available or may request an available animal at the time of application. We cannot "hold" an animal for an unapproved adopter, even if they ask to leave a deposit. Adoptions are not granted on a first come first serve basis. We strive to place an animal in the best situation. If multiple applications are received for a particular animal, the approved adopter may not necessarily be the first application received. Because of our application process, we do not offer same day adoptions.
