Valkor's Story

Introducing Valkor—because apparently someone ordered a Great Pyrenees, selected “luxury cloud,” added the face of a teddy bear who has never disappointed anyone, and then hired a professional makeup artist to finish the eyes. Subtle? Absolutely not. Effective? You’re already pricing XXL dog beds, so you tell us. Valkor is a 2.5-year-old male Great Pyrenees with the kind of eyeliner women have spent entire evenings, three cotton swabs, and the last of their patience trying to achieve. He woke up like this. Frankly, rude. And the eyeliner is merely how he gets you through the door. Then come those eyes—the sort that make you forget every sensible thing you have ever said about furniture space, dog hair, and how you’re “just looking.” Of course you are. And he’s just a modest little throw pillow with feet. Very believable statements from everyone involved. Really, the entire presentation is excessive. The eyes. The smile. The magnificent cloud surrounding his person. Valkor looks like he should emerge from an enchanted forest carrying a handwritten invitation to become his best friend. And yes, you would follow him. You’d probably carry his luggage.

Apply to adopt Valkor:
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Valkor is fostered in Edmond, Oklahoma. His adopter must personally pick him up there. We do not transport.

When it comes to other dogs, Valkor arrived at his foster home, met the three resident girls, and apparently decided the sensible thing to do was fit right in. No dramatic board meeting. No hostile takeover of the toy department. His foster has seen no aggression or guarding over food, toys, bones, or affection. That’s right: this handsome man can share snacks, possessions, AND attention. Several humans should be taking notes. He enjoys being part of a pack and would thrive with one or more large canine companions. His humans are still his favorite, but having fellow large dogs around gives him that lovely combination of family, company, and someone else who understands why lying in a doorway is a perfectly reasonable use of space. Children? Valkor is interested. Very interested. His foster says he adores them and will actually have her stop by a fence where children are playing so he can watch and listen. Other dogs stop walks to investigate a fascinating shrub. Valkor would like to pause for the neighborhood recess report. Apparently, the sound of children having a good time deserves a place on the itinerary. We don’t have specific ages or detailed household experiences to report, so matching him with children should still account for his considerable size and everyone’s ability to interact respectfully. But his interest is awfully sweet. Somewhere inside this enormous cloud is a boy who hears kids playing and thinks, “We should see what my friends are doing.” Cats remain an unanswered question on Valkor’s résumé. We know he can peacefully share his life with three female dogs, but we have not yet determined how he feels about a nine-pound creature who slaps people for breathing incorrectly. Will he want to be friends? Will he stand there looking wounded while a cat repossesses his XXL bed? Will he need emotional support after being hissed at by something the size of his head? We simply don’t know. His eyeliner may be flawless, but that doesn’t automatically qualify him to negotiate with a tiny dictator wearing a fur coat. Meeting new people initially involved a little quality control. Valkor wasn’t immediately handing out backstage passes just because someone showed up with functioning hands and an interest in touching him. He needed a moment to assess the situation. Understandable. When you look like a limited-edition teddy bear, people tend to approach with the restraint of a toddler spotting birthday cake. His confidence has grown considerably, though, and his foster says he loves people. Give him time to get comfortable, let him come to you, and allow the friendship to develop without immediately burying your face in his glorious neck fluff. Yes, we realize this requires tremendous personal discipline. Please try. Beneath that initially cautious exterior is a giant love bug whose preferred long-term arrangement is being close to his person.

Valkor’s energy level lands around a 5 out of 10. He’s a homebody with a very sincere commitment to walks—the canine equivalent of someone who loves staying home but will absolutely put on shoes for their favorite activity. He enjoys the outdoors, likes toys, and appreciates having things to do without needing your household to operate like an Olympic training facility. Fetch, however, has failed to impress him. You threw it. He witnessed the decision. He isn’t convinced this automatically creates an assignment for him. His opinion on playing in water is still unknown, so we cannot yet confirm whether he comes with the optional soggy-bear package. Walks are where this boy really shines. His foster describes him as a dream on a leash: he loves going, doesn’t pull, and likes walking beside his person. A Great Pyrenees who understands that a walk can happen without turning the human into a windsock? Please allow us a moment. Valkor is happy to accompany you like a handsome, heavily insulated gentleman, taking in the world while keeping his favorite person close. You get fresh air, companionship, and a walking partner whose eyeliner remains immaculate regardless of the weather. Try not to resent him. Car rides are a different matter. Valkor doesn’t love them and needs help getting into his foster’s SUV. His foster suspects he associates the car with leaving her, so this is an area where patience and reassuring experiences will matter. For now, “Who wants to go for a ride?” is unlikely to produce a dog already buckled in and holding the travel snacks. He would like some assistance, some understanding, and ideally a written explanation of why a perfectly good walk wasn’t available.

Thunder and very loud noises also make him cautious. He may look like he could personally escort a thunderstorm off the property, but appearances are misleading. Sometimes the enormous guardian-shaped marshmallow needs his people to help him feel safe, too. A calm approach and a comfortable place to settle will mean much more to him than a lecture about how the sky is “just making noise.” At home, Valkor has been making a fairly compelling case for sainthood. He figured out potty training in just 48 hours, which is frankly an obnoxious thing to put on a résumé when some of us still can’t remember which day the trash goes out. He knows “sit” and “no,” hasn’t been chewing things he shouldn’t, and doesn’t get on the couch. He would apparently like us to understand that the bed is a separate negotiation. Different furniture. Different jurisdiction. His foster also hasn’t heard a single bark from him so far. Yes, a Great Pyrenees. Yes, we checked. We’re reporting his current behavior rather than promising lifelong silence, but at the moment, Valkor appears to have declined the standard Pyr subscription to Neighborhood Announcements Unlimited. He’s been a remarkably chill customer, quietly enjoying his people while other dogs presumably handle the urgent matter of a leaf moving three houses away. Valkor has never been kenneled, and his foster is looking for a home where he won’t be crated. He also hasn’t been left alone since coming into her care, so his comfort with alone time is still unknown. His family will need to ease into that thoughtfully rather than assuming Mr. Devoted has already completed an independent-living course.

For his future home, Valkor needs a securely fenced yard, regular walks, and people who understand that loving the outdoors doesn’t mean wanting to live out there without his family. His foster specifically says apartment life isn’t the right fit. Some room to enjoy himself, a tall, secure fence, and large canine company would make a wonderful setup. He does have an interest in wandering, despite loving home, so his family will need to take containment seriously. Being emotionally attached to your house does not prevent a Pyr from wondering whether the house down the road has chicken. Speaking of chicken, Valkor would like it entered into the official record that he loves food, particularly meat. His foster’s recommendations include chicken, chew bones, regular brushing, and ear cleaning—which he actually enjoys. Somewhere, a person is wrestling a small dog through an ear-cleaning session while Valkor is apparently waiting for his spa appointment with the serene confidence of someone whose robe has been warmed. He loves a good brushing, too, which is fortunate because that glorious coat comes with upkeep. You don’t acquire a walking featherbed and then act surprised when it needs maintenance. For all the jokes about his eyeliner, his fluff, and his suspiciously effective smile, the sweetest thing about Valkor is how much he wants to belong. He enjoys his canine family, seeks out his human, walks happily beside them, and settles down close enough to know they’re there. His foster sees a big-hearted boy with the potential to become someone’s soul dog, and it’s easy to understand why. He’s ready to be someone’s familiar face at the end of the day, their reason to take the evening walk, and the enormous, beautifully groomed presence beside the bed. You can keep telling yourself you’re just looking. Valkor has excellent eyes. He knows how this ends.

If your idea of happiness is a giant love bug walking politely beside you, keeping you company at home, and sleeping beside your bed like being near you is the best part of his day, Valkor would like to apply for the position. He brings a gentle heart, excellent canine roommate manners, a soft spot for children, and enough glorious fluff to make hugging him feel like you’ve finally gotten something right in life. His foster thinks he has soul-dog potential, and honestly, “handsome best fr
