Vacay: Jetlag's Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 18th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.
All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.

Adoption fee: $650
Meet Jet Lag!
Jet Lag is a 3 month old Shepherd mix born on April 5th as part of our adorable Vacay Litter. We expect him to grow into a wonderful medium-sized companion, and he's already proving he'll be anything but ordinary. Healthy, incredibly intelligent, athletic, and overflowing with personality, Jet Lag is looking for an active family that wants a true partner in adventure. If you've been searching for a puppy to hike with, train with, explore the world with, or simply make every day a little more exciting, you may have just found your perfect traveling companion.
Have you ever stepped off a plane in a brand-new destination, dropped your suitcase in the hotel room, and immediately thought, 'Let's go explore!'?
That is Jet Lag.
Unlike the kind that leaves you searching for another cup of coffee, this Jet Lag is powered by curiosity, enthusiasm, and the firm belief that every day should include a new adventure. He wakes up every morning convinced something exciting is about to happen—and he's hoping you'll be part of it.
From the moment Jet Lag arrived in his foster home, he acted like he'd already checked in. New backyard? Time to explore. New toys? Better inspect every single one. New dogs? 'Hi! I'm Jet Lag! We should definitely be friends!'
He has confidence for days.
In fact, when he first met the resident dogs, he briefly decided he might be running the place. The resident dogs politely explained that wasn't how things worked, and to his credit, Jet Lag quickly got the memo. He learned the household pecking order, adjusted beautifully, and has continued proving just how incredibly intelligent and adaptable he is.
And when we say smart...
We mean really smart.
His foster family has invested an incredible amount of time into his training, which means his future family won't be starting from scratch. Jet Lag has already learned that patience opens doors—literally.
Every morning he calmly waits inside his crate until he's invited out.
Before every meal, he sits quietly until he hears the magic word: 'Okay.'
On walks, he's learning to sit at every corner before crossing the street.
He's practicing walking politely beside his person instead of towing them down the sidewalk.
He's learning that listening earns rewards, adventures, and all the good things in life.
For a puppy who's only three months old, he's off to an impressive start.
Jet Lag absolutely thrives when his brain has something to do. He's eager to learn, eager to work, and eager to figure out what comes next. Training isn't work to him—it's a game he can't wait to play.
This isn't the puppy who's dreaming about spending every afternoon stretched across the couch.
He's dreaming about the next adventure.
Morning hikes?
Perfect.
Weekend trail runs?
Even better.
Camping trips?
He's already packed.
Dog sports?
Where do we sign up?
Long neighborhood walks where every squirrel, butterfly, and blowing leaf deserves a thorough investigation?
Now you're speaking his language.
Jet Lag has a higher activity level than many puppies his age and will thrive with a family that enjoys getting outside and including him in their adventures. Once he's had plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, he's happy to recharge before heading out for whatever comes next.
He also rides beautifully in the car. Safely tucked into his crate, he settles in after a little adjustment time, making him an excellent road-trip companion for families who love taking their dogs along for the ride.
Unlike some puppies who constantly need to be in your lap, Jet Lag is wonderfully independent. He enjoys exploring, entertaining himself, and figuring things out on his own. But when he's ready for affection, he'll happily come over for cuddles—on his terms, of course. It just adds to his confident, charming personality.
He loves meeting new people and approaches life with a cheerful optimism that's contagious. Around the house, he's always looking for his next assignment, whether that's learning a new command, carrying around his favorite toy, or seeing if today is finally the day someone invents a game even more fun than yesterday's.
Jet Lag would absolutely shine with someone who appreciates intelligent, driven dogs and enjoys training. His foster believes he'd excel in dog sports, hiking, running, advanced obedience, or simply being an incredible companion for someone who lives an active lifestyle. He's the kind of dog who doesn't just want a home—he wants a teammate.
The truth is...
Some puppies are content simply following along.
Jet Lag wants to help lead the adventure.
He's bold.
He's funny.
He's endlessly entertaining.
And he's going to make one lucky family incredibly proud.
Imagine a year from now...
You're standing at the top of a hiking trail. Jet Lag is sitting beside you, looking up with that familiar 'What's next?' expression after mastering another new skill. Friends keep asking where you found such an amazing dog. You smile because you remember the day you almost scrolled past his picture.
Someone is going to wake up a few weeks from now with Jet Lag stretched out at their feet after an early morning hike. They'll laugh at his goofy confidence, celebrate every new trick he learns, and wonder how they ever lived without him.
The only question is...will that someone be you?
Because flights don't stay at the gate forever...
...and neither does a puppy like Jet Lag.
