Ursa's Story

Meet Ursa!! (case #11158)

Another shining star from our constellation-themed litter of seven, Ursa is as bold and captivating as her name suggests. She arrived at the shelter with her mother (a Malinois) and her siblings after going unclaimed. With a wide variety of looks across the litter — some resembling bully mixes, others boxer types, and a couple of fluffier pups — Ursa stands out as one of the soft-coated beauties of the group.

At just 2 months old, Ursa is already showing herself to be a very confident, take-charge kind of puppy — a true “boss girl” of the litter. She’s active, people-focused, and thrives on interaction. Whether she’s playing, exploring, or soaking up affection, Ursa is happiest when she’s engaged with her humans. She shows a stable, outgoing temperament during handling and play, making her a fun and dynamic companion.

Ursa is both highly food motivated and toy motivated, giving her excellent potential for training. She’ll benefit from starting right away with:
Positive reinforcement training
Hand feeding to build engagement and focus
Reward-based learning and trade games with toys
These tools will help channel her confidence and intelligence into positive behaviors from the very beginning.

With her Malinois background, Ursa is expected to mature into a driven, energetic, and intelligent adult dog. She will need an environment that provides:
Daily physical exercise (structured and consistent)
Plenty of mental enrichment (training, puzzles, interactive play)
Clear structure and boundaries to guide her strong personality
Controlled, positive socialization to ensure her confidence develops appropriately

Because of her naturally high confidence, it’s especially important that Ursa’s adopters are ready to provide early training and structure. Without guidance, that boldness can become pushy — so she’ll need a family committed to shaping her into a well-mannered adult through consistency and patience.

Like all puppies, Ursa will come with her fair share of growing pains:
House training and crate training will take time and routine
Teething means chewing—she’ll need proper outlets and supervision
Puppy manners (jumping, nipping) will need to be taught early
Ongoing training is essential, not optional, for a pup like her

Ursa is looking for an active, patient home that understands the commitment of raising a high-energy, intelligent dog. Experience with working breeds is a bonus, but most important is a willingness to invest time, structure, and consistent training.

In return, Ursa offers a bold, affectionate, and engaging companion who will keep life exciting and full of personality. If you’re ready for a confident, clever pup who’s eager to learn and lead the way on your next adventures, Ursa might just be your perfect match. Her adopters must be willing to return her for this surgery, which is included in the adoption fee.

Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families.

*Please note: we only adopt within Ontario
