Uma's Story
Hi, my name is Uma! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Goofy, Solid, Wiggler
-Can Live with Kids: Age up to counselor discretion - recommending dog-savvy respectful children age 8+
-Can Live with Cats: May be okay with dog-savvy confident cat who will not run. SLOW & SUPERVISED introductions and interactions.
-Can Live with Dogs: May be okay with the right match, all dog introductions done at WHS to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can do Apartment Living: Yes, with a solid mental and physical plan in place.
-Potty Trained: Appears to be.
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, 1-3 private lessons depending on adopters experience.
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a spay and microchip provided by WHS.

This sweet young pittie mix found her way to us through no fault of her own, and while shelter life has been a big adjustment, her gentle heart is still shining through. Uma is having a tough time in the kennel environment and has been quite vocal about it. She’s just ready for a calm, loving space to call her own. Uma can be a little sensitive to touch and may feel nervous when meeting new people, but with patience and understanding, she begins to show her softer, affectionate side. She’s looking for someone who sees her for who she is: a dog who just needs time, consistency, and kindness to truly blossom.

Her ideal home will be with someone committed to going at her pace, building trust step by step and celebrating the little wins along the way. Uma will thrive with a family who can provide structure, positive reinforcement, and plenty of opportunities for both physical exercise and mental enrichment. Like all dogs, Uma will need a lifelong commitment that includes proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, and continued support as she settles into her new life. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
