Tyra's Story

🐾 Hi, I’m Tyra... and I’m trying really hard to be brave. 💗

I’m not the kind of dog who will run up to greet you with a wagging tail. I probably won’t climb into your lap, bring you a toy, or ask you to pick me up.

At least, not yet.

You see, humans are still pretty scary to me. Right now, I feel safest in my own little space where I can watch the world and learn that nothing bad is going to happen. When everything is quiet and no one is watching, I get brave enough to explore. And when I’m really comfortable, you might even catch me sprawled upside down having the BEST snooze. Apparently, that’s pretty adorable. ❤️

I am starting to make tiny steps. I’ll take food gently from your hand. I’ll accept a few little pets. Every one of those moments might seem small, but for me, they’re huge victories.

My forever family needs to understand that I’m not a dog who will settle in within a few days. I need time, patience, consistency and absolutely no pressure. I need someone who can love me exactly where I am today while giving me the time I need to discover who I can become.

🏡 My perfect home:
• Calm, quiet and predictable
• An adult home without children
• I need to be the only dog
• Someone comfortable giving me lots of space and letting me set the pace
• A family who understands fearful dogs and celebrates baby steps
• No expectations about how quickly I should learn to trust

I’m currently pee-pad trained and comfortable being left in my pen for a normal workday. I’m not destructive, I don't need a crate, and apartment or attached living could be just fine for me. I’m also not interested in toys or playing yet — right now, learning to feel safe is my biggest job.

Please don’t choose me because you feel sorry for me. Choose me because you understand me.

Choose me because you’re willing to sit nearby without asking anything from me. Because you’ll celebrate the first time I voluntarily come a little closer. Because you understand that someday, a tail wag or a cuddle from me might mean more than a thousand cuddles from another dog.

There’s a brave little girl hiding underneath all this fear.

I’m already trying to find her.

Maybe my special person is the one who can patiently help me realize that the world — and humans — can be safe after all. 💕🐾

Love,
Tyra

It Takes A Village Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
Hopeful adopters must fill out an adoption application. All applications are screened and potential matches are contacted. Follow up questions are emailed. A phone call is set up to clarify any questions about the adoption process. At that point the fosters are provided the contact information for the potential adopters. They set up a meet and greet at the fosters home. During the meet the foster will tell the potential adopter the good, the bad. and the ugly about the dog... we want total transparency in order to have an open and successful adoption. After the meet we ask the fosters and the adopters their thoughts. If the adopter would like to proceed, their references are checked and a virtual home visit is conducted. If the adoptable dog has any sort of behavioural or medical issues a plan to address the issue would be required before adoption could proceed. If all is good then the adoption contract is sent out to be signed and returned along with the adoption fee. The foster is given the green light to arrange pick up.
