Ty is a 4 yo deaf and vision impaired dane that is the product of unethical double merle breeding. He is the definition of gentle giant, he’s an absolute snuggle bunny, a constant shadow. He always has to be touching you, or lying on you. And he’s about 150 lbs.. so good luck moving from your spot on the couch if he’s on your legs.

Ty came to us from another rescue that was closing its doors and moving away. The reason he was surrendered to that rescue was because his owners couldn’t afford his vetting care and he was dealing with a very seriously-infected and deep lick granuloma that covers almost his entire back ankle and leg. Lick granulomas are very hard to heal, they have to heal from the inside out and breathe (shouldn’t be bandaged up) and the dog’s licking just makes them get exponentially worse. It looks like a burn injury. Ty’s granuloma was covering almost his entire back leg. So now he’s on a very strict regimen of twice daily antibiotics, regular cleanings, and he has to be coned or muzzled to prevent him from constantly licking it when he’s not being directly observed.

This injury will take many months to fully heal. Whoever adopts Ty will need to understand that this will be a long recovery and he’s already become OCD about licking his legs when he’s bored, so he cannot be left alone without muzzle and cone on. It’s a form of separation anxiety and he comforts himself by licking.. but he doesn’t understand he’s self mutilating his leg.

He is on daily anti anxiety med that will need to continue for life. He will also likely always need to have his lock spots continuously cleaned with antifungal and antiseptic cleanser and shampoos to keep more granulomas from forming.

Ty is living with two other Great Danes, both males, one is 2 1/2 years old and the other one is nine years old, and he’s great with both of them. He also frequently lives with a female pug who comes over to play. He has never ever been aggressive with anything or anyone. He is the definition of love.

He is going to need a person or family that understands Danes and that can deal with a special needs dane as he is deaf and vision impaired. Luckily he has never seemed to mind and he is not one that gets spooked or scared easily. But he absolutely needs someone home all the time. He requires a homebody.

A FENCED IN YARD IS REQUIRED because he is deaf and partially blind.

Ty adoption fee is $400. He is neutered, fully vetted, and gastropexied.
