Tumbleweed's Story

Tumbleweed is a young girl with the quiet wisdom of a much older soul. She was deeply frightened when she first arrived, often pressing herself into the farthest corner of any room as if to simply vanish from view. Despite her fear, her gentle nature never wavered, even during necessary handling.

Weeks of patient work have brought real change. Tumbleweed is beginning to trust. She settles most easily when a calm, steady dog-friend is nearby to show her the world isn't as threatening as it once seemed. She has a small circle of people friends here at the shelter, too. New people earn their place in her life slowly, through repeated gentle visits (and a little bit of luck). Once you're inside that circle, you're solidly in.

What waits on the other side of her caution is pure sweetness. She becomes a goofy, joyful little shadow who will race in delighted circles around her kennel, then plant herself right against your side to keep quiet watch. She's also developed an endearing habit of gathering treats and toys and tucking them away in secret spots - her own private treasures.

Because she is still a flight risk, her forever home will need to be secure and thoughtfully managed until she fully understands she is safe. We are so proud of how far she has already come, and we can't wait for the person who will earn her complete trust and gain the most devoted best friend and shadow in return.
